Release of the Book on September 3rd for the Legislative Council Centenary by President Draupadi Murmu

Mumbai : On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, President Draupadi Murmu will felicitate the recipients of the ‘Outstanding Parliamentarian’ and ‘Outstanding Speech’ awards for the period 2019 to 2024 in both the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly. These awards are presented by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Board of the Maharashtra Legislature, Maharashtra Branch, at a special function marking the Legislative Council Centenary. On this occasion, the book Requirement and Importance of the Upper House will also be released, according to Adv. Rahul Narvekar and Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Council, Dr. Neelam Gorhe.

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Board, Maharashtra Branch, established in 1952, is the oldest branch in the State Legislatures of the country. It regularly conducts various educational and training activities for members regarding parliamentary democracy. Since 1995, members of both houses have been honored with the “Best Parliamentarian” and “Best Speech” awards annually. Awardees receive medals and certificates, and the upcoming ceremony on September 3, 2024, will continue this tradition.

The event will also see the presence of Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandrakant Patil, Deputy Speaker Narahari Jirwal, and Leaders of the Opposition in both Houses, Ambadas Danve and Vijay Wadettiwar.

The presiding officer has appealed to all current members of both houses, former members of the Legislative Council, and Members of Parliament from Maharashtra to attend this memorable and historic function, honoring the glorious tradition of the Maharashtra Legislature.
