A Tit For Tat Situation In The Middle East.
Tehran/Washington DC; April 2026: The Iranian regime is still silent about the extension of the ceasefire, and moreover the claims of US President Donald Trump – that the United States are in total control of the Strait Of Hormuz. However, since the beginning of the Israel-US attacks on February 28th this year, they’ve been repeating that they will defend themselves against any kind of aggression or violation that they regard as harmful.
Presumedly there is a consensus in Iran among politicians and officials that any move by the US will be counterfeited by some other move, as it has been demonstrated in the past few days after the US army took an Iranian ship, the Iranians resorted to the confiscation of two ships. In such a tit-for-tat situation, and the ceasefire currently is very volatile and everyone is actually concerned this could turn back into a situation of war.
As Maverick News 30 have earlier reported that the US President Donald Trump is in a perplexed situation, taking into cognizance his frequent shift in stance with the Iran War. Such a wanton demeanor of the US President is the culmination of the prelude – the Israel enticed Iran attacks that has been a seclusion of the American Congress’s war approval. The US President has been able to wage war on Iran without new approval from Congress, with his own Republicans providing him a free pass as a crucial legal deadline looms.
Under the War Powers Resolution, the President can deploy troops for just 60 days without authorisation. That time runs out in just one week. Support for the war is slipping, the President’s approval is “in the firing line”, Republican approval of Congress has slumped, and the military is seeking an extra $200bn, even as voters feel the impact in higher living costs and petrol prices.
Moreover, President Trump is doubling down on what he claims is US control of the Strait of Hormuz as leverage. He insists this will bring Iran to the negotiating table. The President maintains that Iran is losing a vast amount of money every day because of the US blockade. He is also intensifying the nature of this blockade by ordering US vessels to fire at any gunboats they encounter.
Trump says the Iranian navy has been destroyed, but claims Iran is now using small fast attack boats, which he alleges are akin to piracy in the strait. He remains insistent that this blockade will continue while the ceasefire is extended. The White House has said the ceasefire is open-ended, with no fixed deadline.
Instead, the White House spokesperson said it depends on what the President decides. Trump therefore claims the authority to continue or end the ceasefire. In the absence of that, there does not appear to be a coherent US strategy.
Ali Akbar Dareini, a senior Iranian analyst of the Center for Strategic Studies in Tehran has dismissed Trump’s suggestion of a fracture within Iran’s leadership as a “delusional miscalculation”.
“There have always been differences of opinion, but when Iran adopts a strategy in foreign policy, there is unity”, he said, adding that Trump’s mixed messages are part of a “psychological war. If the blockade is lifted and Trump remains committed to diplomacy, the way is open for negotiations”, he said, calling on US to “end the piracy” of seizing Iranian ships.
