‘Poribartan Has Come’: PM Narendra Modi Hails BJP Victory, Promises New Era for West Bengal

New Delhi, May 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday declared the beginning of a “new chapter” for West Bengal, marked by development, freedom from fear, and renewed public trust, following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s emphatic electoral performance in the Assembly polls.

Addressing a jubilant gathering at the BJP headquarters in the national capital, Modi described the verdict as a historic turning point and asserted that “Poribartan hoi gaiche” (change has come) in Bengal. He framed the outcome as a victory for democracy and a decisive rejection of what he termed politics of fear and violence.

“This victory is dedicated to the people of West Bengal and especially to the women who have endured hardship and injustice,” the Prime Minister said. He acknowledged the resilience of party workers, particularly women, who, he noted, had faced significant challenges in states like Bengal and Kerala.

Calling the moment a “new dawn,” Modi said the mandate fulfilled the aspirations of generations who had long envisioned a transformed Bengal. “The sun has risen in the holy land of Bengal. This is the beginning of a journey defined by ‘Vishwas’ (trust) and ‘Vikas’ (development),” he said, drawing loud cheers from supporters.

The Prime Minister assured citizens that the new government would work inclusively, without discrimination, to ensure growth and welfare for all sections of society. He announced that one of the first decisions of the new Cabinet would be the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat health scheme in the state, expanding access to affordable healthcare.

Modi also spoke about the need for strong measures to curb illegal infiltration and boost economic opportunities to prevent migration. “Development and security will go hand in hand. We are committed to building a Bengal where people can thrive without fear,” he said.

Invoking spiritual symbolism, Modi said he had been blessed by the Ganga River since filing his nomination from Varanasi, and added that the blessings of the Brahmaputra River and Kamakhya Temple were also reflected in the party’s success.

Highlighting the BJP’s broader electoral momentum, Modi pointed to consecutive victories in Assam and the return of the NDA government in Puducherry. He reiterated the party’s commitment to youth empowerment and economic progress in these regions.

Reinforcing the slogan “Nagrik Devo Bhava,” Modi said the BJP’s governance model is rooted in service to citizens and delivery on promises. “That is why the BJP is in power in 20 states today,” he noted, adding that the party’s success extends beyond Assembly polls to local body elections in states like Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.

Paying tribute to Syama Prasad Mukherjee, the founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, Modi said his vision and sacrifices for Bengal were being honoured through this victory.

The Prime Minister also commended the Election Commission of India for conducting largely peaceful elections. “For the first time in years, Bengal witnessed a poll where democracy prevailed without violence. The people’s voice replaced the sound of gunfire,” he said.

In his concluding remarks, Modi urged all political parties to move beyond confrontation and embrace cooperation for the state’s progress. “This is the time to focus on ‘badlav’ (change), not ‘badla’ (revenge). Let us work together to build a prosperous Bengal,” he said.
