Arunachal CM Criticizes Mamata Banerjee for ‘Irresponsible’ Remarks on Northeast

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her recent comments about the northeast region, calling them “irresponsible” and contrary to the spirit of national unity. He accused Banerjee of revealing her “politics of anarchy” through her statements.

Speaking at a TMC students’ wing rally in Kolkata on Wednesday, Banerjee had remarked, “If Bengal is set on fire, Assam, the northeast, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi will also be affected.” This comment was made in response to the widespread protests following the alleged rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata.

Khandu took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his disapproval, stating, “The unsavory remarks on the North East by the West Bengal CM are highly irresponsible and show her desperation. It exposes her politics of anarchy and goes against the spirit of unity in our country. I strongly condemn this.”

He emphasized that the people of the northeast are peace-loving and reject any attempts to incite hostility and division. “It’s time to move beyond rhetoric that divides and focus on building a stronger, more harmonious nation,” Khandu added on the microblogging platform.
