Priyanka Gandhi Alleges Corruption in NEET-UG 2026, Targets Centre Over Exam Irregularities

New Delhi, May 2026 : Congress General Secretary and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday accused the Narendra Modi-led Central government of failing to curb corruption and malpractice in national-level examinations, raising serious concerns over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG 2026 examination conducted for admission to medical colleges across the country.

In a strongly worded post on social media platform X, Priyanka Gandhi said that repeated incidents of exam-related corruption under the BJP government were jeopardising the future of millions of students.

She alleged that nearly 23 lakh aspirants who appeared for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) this year had once again become victims of systemic irregularities.

“The rampant corruption in exams over the past several years under the BJP rule is robbing the country’s youth of their future. This time too, the future of nearly 23 lakh students has been tampered with,” she stated.

The Congress leader said that students and their families make enormous sacrifices to prepare for highly competitive examinations like NEET, which determine admissions into medical colleges.

“Children work tirelessly for exams like NEET. Parents invest everything they have so that their children can secure a better future. But every examination falls prey to corruption,” she said.

Questioning the effectiveness of the anti-paper leak legislation introduced by the Centre, Priyanka Gandhi asked what purpose such stringent laws serve if irregularities continue unchecked at the ground level.

“The Prime Minister is accountable to the country’s youth. How long will this cycle of destroying the future of young people continue?” she asked.

Her remarks came a day after the National Testing Agency (NTA) acknowledged that it was cooperating with investigating agencies following reports of alleged malpractice linked to the Rajasthan Special Operations Group’s probe into the conduct of NEET-UG 2026.

In an official statement issued on Sunday, the NTA maintained that the examination held on May 3 was conducted under strict security arrangements and multiple levels of monitoring and verification.

According to the agency, inputs regarding alleged irregularities were received on May 7, four days after the examination was conducted. The information was subsequently shared with central investigative agencies on May 8 for independent verification and necessary legal action.

The NTA stated that the recent detentions and actions reported in the media were the outcome of timely intervention by law enforcement agencies.

“The NTA places on record its appreciation for the agencies leading this effort and confirms that it is working closely with them in a fully supporting role, providing all examination-related data and technical assistance required,” the agency said.

Investigators in Rajasthan are probing allegations that a so-called “guess paper” circulated ahead of the examination allegedly contained questions closely matching those in the actual NEET question paper.

In a separate development, Delhi Police rescued 18 NEET aspirants from hotels across the Delhi-NCR region. The students were allegedly confined by a gang that had collected between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 30 lakh from their parents by promising guaranteed MBBS admissions through management and other quota arrangements.

The students were rescued on the eve of the examination and later assisted in appearing for the test after counselling by authorities.
