Prateek Yadav, Son of Mulayam Singh Yadav, Dies at 38 in Lucknow
Lucknow, May 2026 : Prateek Yadav, son of late Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and husband of BJP leader Aparna Yadav, passed away at the age of 38 in Lucknow on Wednesday, marking a tragic moment for the Yadav family.
He was declared “brought dead” at the Lucknow Civil Hospital after being rushed there by family members early in the morning.
According to officials, Prateek was brought to the hospital around 6:15 a.m., where doctors confirmed that he had already expired upon arrival. His wife Aparna Yadav was not present at the time of the incident.
Prateek was the stepbrother of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, making the development significant in both political and family circles in the state.
Hospital sources said that a post-mortem examination will be conducted by a panel of doctors at King George’s Medical University and Hospital to determine the exact cause of death. Initial observations suggest that there were no visible external injuries on the body.
Family members revealed that Prateek had been suffering from lung-related health issues for quite some time. He was undergoing treatment for a blood clot in his lungs. His condition reportedly deteriorated early in the morning, after which he became unresponsive and was immediately taken to the hospital.
In recent months, Prateek Yadav had also been in the news for personal reasons. He had publicly expressed strained relations with his wife Aparna Yadav, alleging differences within the family.
In January, he posted an emotional message on social media, stating that he intended to seek divorce and accusing Aparna of prioritising personal ambition over family relationships. He had also claimed that she had “ruined his family ties” and expressed emotional distress over the situation.
However, shortly after making the post, Prateek had later stated that the couple had reconciled and their relationship was improving.
Prateek Yadav and Aparna Yadav were married in 2011 and have two children.
His sudden demise has led to an outpouring of condolences and reactions from political circles and the extended Yadav family, as authorities continue formal procedures to ascertain the exact cause of death.
