Dr. KC Lalmalsawmzauva, Adviser to Chief Minister, Flags Off Ginger Consignments from Tuirial SCC and Inaugural Shipment from Sairang Processing Unit
Aizawl, May 19, 2026: Adviser to the Chief Minister, Dr. K.C. Lalmalsawmzauva, today flagged off the final ginger consignment of the year from the Tuirial Secondary Collection Centre (SCC). On the same occasion, he also flagged off the first-ever shipment of processed ginger—5 metric tonnes of sliced dried ginger—from the Sairang Ginger Processing Plant under the government’s Handholding Scheme.
Addressing the programme, Dr. Lalmalsawmzauva expressed satisfaction that the Tuirial SCC was able to complete its final dispatch of ginger for the current year without any major difficulties. He appreciated the dedication and hard work of those involved in managing the SCC, noting that their commitment had ensured smooth procurement and transportation operations.
He said the successful functioning of the SCC reflected the collective efforts of officials, society leaders, and farmers. While appreciating the contribution of the managing society, he emphasised that government schemes succeed only when officials discharge their responsibilities sincerely and with dedication.
Highlighting the importance of coordinated efforts, he said institutions such as Primary Collection Centres (PCCs), Secondary Collection Centres (SCCs), the Mizoram Agricultural Marketing Board (MAMB), and District Agricultural Marketing Committees (DAMCs) must continue to work in close coordination to ensure better pricing and efficient marketing of agricultural produce.
Dr. Lalmalsawmzauva explained that the state’s ginger marketing system is being implemented in a structured, research-based manner with a clear year-wise roadmap. The first phase (2024–2025) has been designated as the system formation and stabilisation stage. The second phase (2026–2027) has been identified as the processing and value addition phase, while the third phase (2027–2028) will focus on sustainable cultivation and promotion of organic farming.
He said it was encouraging that Mizoram’s ginger produce is now reaching distant markets, and encouraged participants to share suggestions for improving processing and marketing systems with the government.
During the programme, Managing Director of MAMB, Pu Lalhmingmuana, presented a report stating that 82,972.10 quintals of ginger had been procured in Mizoram at the support price. He said a total of ₹22,25,78,995 had been disbursed to farmers. He also noted that out of the ₹150 crore allocated for procurement support, only about ₹40 crore had been utilised so far, reflecting efficient financial management.
It was also reported that under Tuirial SCC, a total of 1,42,902.9 kg of ginger had been sold through various price categories, and the government expenditure for procurement amounted to ₹34,75,899.2. Nine PCCs operate under the Tuirial SCC network.
Following the Tuirial dispatch, Dr. Lalmalsawmzauva also flagged off the first processed ginger consignment—5 MT of sliced dried ginger—from the Sairang processing unit operated by Good Faith Company.
He described the achievement as a significant milestone, noting that the production and dispatch of the first processed batch within four months of operation under the Handholding Scheme was a remarkable success. He expressed gratitude to Good Faith, the buyer company Nature Sampann, and all entrepreneurs involved in processing activities.
He further stated that while the initiative has achieved early success, several challenges remain, including regulatory compliance such as FSSAI registration and chemical testing requirements. He urged entrepreneurs and young professionals to take up such value-addition ventures with seriousness, discipline, and innovation.
Calling upon Mizoram’s educated youth, he encouraged them to enter not only ginger processing but also broader vegetable processing and agro-based industries, highlighting that such sectors hold strong potential for sustainable economic growth in the state.
