Telangana Targets One Crore Women Millionaires by 2034, Announces Major Empowerment Initiatives

Hyderabad, May 2026 : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday unveiled a series of ambitious initiatives aimed at women’s economic empowerment, announcing that the state government has set a target of transforming one crore women into millionaires by 2034.

Addressing a programme focused on women’s self-help groups, the Chief Minister said the government is committed to making ‘Mahila Shakti’ a model for the entire country by providing women with financial strength, entrepreneurship opportunities, and large-scale participation in economic activities.

As part of the initiative, Revanth Reddy announced that 553 buses owned by women’s self-help groups would be formally flagged off at Parade Grounds on June 5. He said the government had already initiated a programme to facilitate the purchase of 1,000 buses through women’s groups, which would later be leased to the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (RTC).

Highlighting the government’s focus on women-centric welfare measures, the Chief Minister recalled that within two days of assuming office, the government introduced free bus travel for women in RTC buses. He stated that nearly Rs 10,000 crore had already been reimbursed to the RTC under the scheme.

The Chief Minister further announced a major increase in bank-linkage loans for women’s self-help groups, raising the credit limit from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. According to him, the government has already facilitated bank-linkage loans worth Rs 60,472 crore for women’s groups while also disbursing Rs 1,390 crore under interest-free loan schemes.

In another significant move, Revanth Reddy virtually laid the foundation stone for 8,000 Indira Gandhi Stree Shakti Bhavans, which will function as Women’s Empowerment Centres across the state. These centres are expected to strengthen the activities of self-help groups and provide infrastructure for skill development, business support, and community initiatives.

The Chief Minister urged women’s groups to move beyond small-scale livelihood activities and enter large business ventures. He announced that the government had launched a scheme to establish rice mills, warehouses at the mandal level, and logistics parks through women’s groups. The initiative aims to expand the role of women from small producers to major participants in procurement, storage, processing, and marketing of agricultural produce.

He said the government plans to allow women’s self-help groups to directly procure paddy from farmers and supply processed rice to government agencies. According to the Chief Minister, women are highly accountable in handling resources and would ensure transparency in procurement and supply systems.

Revanth Reddy also announced plans to establish “Mahila Shakti Super Bazaars” run by women’s self-help groups on the lines of major corporate retail chains. The government, he said, is prepared to provide land at concessional rates in urban areas for setting up these supermarkets.

The objective of the initiative is to create direct market access for farmers while ensuring women’s groups generate sustainable income. These super bazaars are expected to sell quality agricultural produce, organic products, and daily essentials directly to consumers.

The Chief Minister emphasised that strengthening rural markets would directly benefit farmers and improve the rural economy. He also revealed that the government intends to establish 1,000 megawatts of solar power plants through women’s self-help groups, enabling them to compete with large corporate players in the renewable energy sector.

Additionally, women’s groups would also be encouraged to enter the petrol pump business sector, further expanding their economic footprint.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Ministers Seethakka, Sridhar Babu, and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, along with Rajya Sabha member Vem Narender Reddy and senior officials, attended the programme.
