Chaudhary Charan Singh Was the Messiah of Farmers: Chief Minister

Lucknow, May 2026 : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid heartfelt tribute on Friday on the death anniversary of former Prime Minister and ‘Bharat Ratna’ recipient Chaudhary Charan Singh, describing him as the “messiah of farmers”.

The Chief Minister offered floral tributes at the statue of Chaudhary Charan Singh located at the Vidhan Bhavan and recalled his immense contribution to the nation, especially in the fields of agriculture and rural development.

In his address, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that Chaudhary Charan Singh, a former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, was a great son of Mother India who dedicated his life to the welfare of farmers and rural communities.

He said that Chaudhary Charan Singh always believed that the path of national development passes through villages, fields, and farmlands. “Chaudhary Sahab used to say that the development of the country is possible only through villages, agriculture, and rural economy,” the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister further stated that Chaudhary Charan Singh, born on December 23, 1902 in Uttar Pradesh, was actively associated with the country’s freedom struggle. He said that many significant reforms in agriculture and revenue administration are credited to him.

According to the Chief Minister, Chaudhary Charan Singh consistently worked to strengthen the rural economy and advocated policies that placed farmers at the centre of governance.

Yogi Adityanath emphasised that farmers must remain a key part of the development agenda and government priorities. He said that all public welfare schemes should be designed keeping farmers in mind to ensure inclusive growth.

He added that in recognition of his unparalleled contribution to the nation, Chaudhary Charan Singh was honoured with the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award.

The Chief Minister also highlighted that the Uttar Pradesh government is continuously working to preserve the legacy of Chaudhary Charan Singh by implementing several farmer-centric initiatives.

He mentioned that the construction of the Chaudhary Charan Singh Seed Park in Lucknow is a significant step in this direction. The government, he said, is committed to carrying forward his vision of strengthening agriculture and supporting farmers.

“Chaudhary Charan Singh was not only a major political leader of the country but also made remarkable contributions to society and the nation,” the Chief Minister said, noting that he passed away on May 29, 1987.
