Ensure Transparency and Quality in Road Construction; Take Strict Action Against Substandard Work: CM Bhajan Lal Sharma

Strengthen and Expand Road Connectivity to Link Major Cities
Current Government Develops 48,748 km of Roads, Compared to 30,641 km During the Same Period Under Previous Government

Jaipur, June 2026 : Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has directed officials to ensure complete transparency and high-quality standards in road construction across the state. He emphasized that road projects should undergo continuous inspections and that strict action must be taken against officials and engineers responsible for substandard construction. The Chief Minister stated that misuse or wastage of public funds would not be tolerated at any level.

Sharma issued these directions while chairing a review meeting of the Public Works Department (PWD) at the Chief Minister’s residence on Thursday. He said that the double-engine government is undertaking major infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening, securing, and expanding Rajasthan’s road network. He instructed officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Public Works Department to complete ongoing projects within stipulated timelines while maintaining the highest quality standards and ensuring effective coordination among agencies. He also stressed the importance of regular monitoring of development works and infrastructure projects.

The Chief Minister conducted a detailed review of the proposed Greenfield Expressway projects. He discussed plans to improve connectivity between Jalore and Jhalawar, Sri Ganganagar and Kotputli, and Ajmer and Banswara, issuing necessary directions to accelerate progress. He also reviewed proposals for the northern section of Jaipur’s Ring Road to strengthen the city’s traffic management system.

Highlighting the importance of infrastructure development, Sharma said that a robust transport network plays a crucial role in accelerating economic growth. He reiterated that the government’s priority is to make transportation easier and more efficient while ensuring that every village and town is connected through a strong road network. He directed officials to speed up road strengthening and widening projects and focus on the expansion and modernization of the existing road infrastructure.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the progress of National Highway development projects in the state and instructed officials to expedite ongoing works. In addition, he examined projects related to the strengthening and renovation of State Highways, Major District Roads, Other District Roads, and rural roads.

Over 18,000 km More Road Development Than Previous Government

Officials informed the Chief Minister that during the current government’s tenure of two years and five months, road development works covering 48,748 km have been completed at an expenditure of Rs 33,195 crore. Of this, 17,934 km comprises newly constructed roads, while 1,756 villages have been connected to the road network. Additionally, 6,184 km of Other District Roads and rural roads have been upgraded to Major District Roads.

To strengthen rural connectivity, work spanning 378 km has been completed under the Atal Pragati Path scheme, benefiting 256 villages.

Officials pointed out that during the corresponding period under the previous government, road construction work covered only 30,641 km at a cost of Rs 13,400 crore. Only 4,671 km of new roads were built, and merely 280 villages were connected to the road network. During the meeting, Sharma also reviewed ongoing and proposed development projects in Bharatpur district. He instructed officials to accord top priority to these projects and ensure their timely completion. He called for a permanent solution to waterlogging issues, widening of roads, enhancement of sports facilities, upgrading of parks, and strengthening of drainage infrastructure through a comprehensive action plan.
