Ashok Sharma replaces injured Yudhvir Singh in India A squad for Sri Lanka tri-series

New Delhi, June 2026 : Fast bowler Ashok Sharma has been named as a replacement for injured pacer Yudhvir Singh in the India A squad currently participating in the 50-over tri-series featuring Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A in Dambulla.

The announcement was made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday after Yudhvir was ruled out due to a shoulder injury.

According to a BCCI statement, Yudhvir reported discomfort in his right shoulder while bowling on June 13. The pacer had also experienced similar pain earlier during a fielding session on June 11. Following medical assessment and consultation with specialists, the BCCI Medical Team recommended that the player undergo a structured rehabilitation programme.

“The BCCI Medical Team, after consultation with a specialist, recommended that Yudhvir undergo a graduated rehabilitation programme under the supervision of the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) to achieve full recovery from the right rotator cuff injury,” the board stated.

Ashok’s inclusion comes on the back of an impressive run in domestic and franchise cricket. The right-arm pacer caught the attention of selectors with his performances in the 2025-26 domestic season and carried that form into the Indian Premier League.

Representing the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026, Ashok claimed six wickets in six matches and played a valuable role in the franchise’s campaign as they finished runners-up. His pace and ability to trouble batters made him one of the emerging fast-bowling prospects in Indian cricket.

Ashok first rose to prominence during the 2025-26 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he emerged as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 22 wickets in 10 matches.

The call-up also follows his confirmed move from Rajasthan to Gujarat for the upcoming domestic season. The transfer marks a significant shift in his career, with Ashok becoming the second notable cricketer after leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi to switch from Rajasthan to Gujarat in domestic cricket.

Sources close to the development indicated that Ashok had obtained the required No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the transfer. His recent form and ability to generate high pace—he clocked an impressive 154.2 kmph delivery during IPL 2026—have further strengthened Gujarat’s pace resources.

Ashok is no stranger to the India A setup, having previously featured in warm-up matches against the USA and Namibia ahead of the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup.

Led by captain Tilak Varma and vice-captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, the India A squad continues its campaign in Sri Lanka with an eye on developing future stars for the national team.

Team Maverick.
