Russias Responds To Ukrainian Proposal For A Bilateral Meeting At G7 Summit.

Moscow/Kyiv; June 2026: Russia has issued its first response to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s proposal to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin at the G7 summit currently taking place in France, according to Russian spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.

Peskov was asked whether there had been an official invitation sent through special channels for Putin to meet in France. “Of course not. And as you know, there are no official channels between Russia and Ukraine”, he said. Peskov has also added that Vladimir Putin had already said everything and offered everything to Zelenskyy and had done so several times.

“If Zelenskyy is ready to speak responsibly and seriously, and, in fact, the Kyiv regime (as the Russian refers to the Ukrainian government) knows exactly what this entails, then he is always welcome to come to Moscow, where he will be received”, the Russian states.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump discussed the possibility of organising a meeting with the Russian leader in the US in a format that would be more difficult for Putin to refuse. If Russia rejects this proposal as well, Zelenskyy has announced additional pressure on Moscow.

In this context it is mention worthy that yesterday (Monday – 15th June 2026) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump have discussed the possibility of organising a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in the United States under a format that would make it difficult for him to refuse, according to Zelenskyy.

“Yesterday, we discussed with President Trump that such a meeting could be organised in the United States in a format where Putin would find it much harder to refuse at least to President Trump. We will see what comes of it. If Russia refuses this chance as well, additional pressure will be needed”, the Ukrainian President has said today (16th June 2026). Zelenskyy recalled that Putin had previously been offered meetings in any location where real decisions on ending the full-scale war could be made, but the Russian leader was not interested.

“We discussed with the US and France the possibility of a meeting with Russia around the G7, with all democratic nations represented. Putin does not want it”, he has emphasised.

Earlier on 04th June this month, as reported by Maverick News 30, Zelenskyy had published an open letter to the Russian leader in which he proposed holding a meeting in a third country in order to reach agreements on a lasting peace.

The Presidential Office understood that the Russian head was unlikely to engage in constructive dialogue, but the letter was aimed at several audiences at once, President Putin himself, representatives of Russia’s elite, and Ukraine’s international partners.

In response, Putin had criticised Zelenskyy’s initiative, complaining about the rude tone of the letter. At the same time, he rejected the idea of personal talks, saying that he does not see any point in them.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stressed that Putin has lost the opportunity to exit the war, which, according to him, is increasingly turning into a failure for Russia, while international pressure on Moscow continues to grow.

Ukraine had previously conveyed to Russia, through intermediaries, diplomats, and intelligence agencies, a proposal for a meeting between the leaders on the sidelines of the G7 summit with the participation of the US President.
