PM Modi arrives in Evian for G7 Summit, to engage world leaders on global challenges
Evian, June 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Evian, France, on Tuesday to participate in the Group of Seven (G7) Summit, where he is expected to engage with global leaders on pressing international issues ranging from economic growth and sustainability to artificial intelligence and global cooperation.
Upon his arrival in the French city, PM Modi expressed optimism about the summit and reiterated India’s commitment to contributing to global efforts aimed at building a sustainable and prosperous future.
Taking to social media platform X, the Prime Minister wrote, “Reached Evian, France for the G7 Summit. Looking forward to engaging with world leaders and exchanging views on key global issues. India remains committed to advancing collective efforts for a more sustainable and prosperous planet.”
The Prime Minister is attending the summit at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron. India’s continued participation in the G7 reflects its growing prominence in global affairs and its expanding role in shaping international discussions on economic development, security and sustainability.
This year marks India’s 13th participation in the G7 Summit and PM Modi’s seventh consecutive attendance at the high-level gathering, underlining the country’s increasing engagement with major world economies.
Before arriving in France, PM Modi made a stopover in Geneva, where he was warmly received by Swiss President Guy Parmelin. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the two leaders exchanged greetings and reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening the India-Switzerland partnership.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the interaction highlighted the close ties between the two countries and reflected their mutual desire to deepen cooperation across sectors.
At the G7 Summit, PM Modi is expected to participate in discussions alongside leaders of G7 nations, invited partner countries and representatives of international organisations. The summit agenda includes key sessions on “Forging New Partnerships and Rebuilding International Solidarity,” “Reviving Balanced, Shared and Sustainable Economic Growth for All,” and “Ensuring a Safe, Rapid and Efficient Rollout of Artificial Intelligence.”
These themes are expected to generate discussions on global economic recovery, technological innovation, sustainable development and the governance of emerging technologies such as AI.
Apart from participating in the summit sessions, the Prime Minister is also scheduled to hold several bilateral meetings with world leaders on the sidelines of the event. These interactions are expected to focus on strengthening strategic partnerships and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
According to Sibi George, India’s regular presence at G7 summits reflects increasing recognition of its contributions toward addressing global challenges related to peace, security, development and environmental sustainability.
He also highlighted India’s efforts through platforms such as the G20 and the Voice of Global South Summit, where New Delhi has consistently advocated for the concerns and developmental aspirations of emerging economies and the Global South.
Following his engagements in Evian, PM Modi will travel to Paris on Thursday for bilateral meetings and to attend the VivaTech Summit, Europe’s largest technology and startup gathering. During his visit to the French capital, he is also expected to address members of the Indian community.
As global leaders convene in Evian, India is expected to use the platform to further its vision of inclusive growth, international cooperation and sustainable development.
