Spanish Combat Catamaran Just 12 Metres Is Armed With Missiles And Drones.
Paris; June 2026: The reality of the near and future naval combat environment is based on the incorporation of armed autonomous solutions into traditional fleets, solutions that share combat potential and, as with the ARW30CAT-A design, can perform more effective incursions in diverse combat environments. These solutions, such as the ARW39CAT-A design from ARMMO Defense Technologies, can carry out more effective incursions in various combat environments.
ARMMO Defense Technologies has developed an autonomous catamaran of the USV (Unmanned Surface Vehicle) type that is designed for high-intensity combat environments where persistence in the area is one of its contributions, although it will also be especially useful in non-traditional confrontations.
Because of this need, the ARW39CAT-A is a vessel no less than 12 meters long and 3.8 meters wide with a clean design that allows it to travel at remarkable speed and a certain stealth from systems that try to detect its presence.
It has been designed as an autonomous vessel capable of long-duration missions, where its contribution as a combat unit—thanks to its powerful cannon or missiles—or as a surveillance (ISR, Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) asset —with various types of sensors that can be integrated—is especially useful to conventional naval fleets. Optionally, it can be equipped with unconventional electronic warfare solutions, making it a particularly useful naval intelligence-gathering platform or a disruptive force against the adversary.
The naval capabilities of the ARW39CAT-A vessel are outstanding. It includes a powerful engine, which can be seen in one of the images, allowing it to reach top speeds of 50 knots and cover a tactical radius of no less than 540 nautical miles on its missions, a detail that allows it to travel more than 1,000 nautical miles on its autonomous voyages.
It will do so by carrying a payload that can range between 800 and 1,200 kilograms and that in the case of the example we saw included anti-aircraft missiles such as the AIM-9 Sidewinder, to generate sufficient offensive potential in SHORAD (Short Range Air Defense) missions and also kinetic interceptor systems such as the low-cost BANDIT-X which are also an ARMMO Defense Technologies design and are characterized by a top speed of 350 kilometers/hour and a range of about 40 km.
It should be noted that this stealthy catamaran-type vessel is a high-potential USV, distinguished above all by its adaptability and modularity, allowing it to perform various types of missions. It will do so by utilizing different onboard sensors, embarking autonomous aerial platforms such as UAVs/FPVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles/First Person View), or acting as an offensive attack system against high-value targets.
