Andhra CM Assures Fair Probe into Sai Krishna Disappearance, Vows Action Against Guilty

Amaravati, June 2026 : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday assured an impartial and comprehensive investigation into the disappearance of 26-year-old Gade Sai Krishna, whose family has alleged that he died in police custody after being taken in for questioning more than a month ago.

Sai Krishna’s mother, Vijaya Lakshmi, met the Chief Minister in Amaravati along with other family members and appealed for justice. She urged the state government to thoroughly investigate her son’s disappearance and determine the circumstances surrounding the allegations of custodial torture and death.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Naidu expressed sympathy for the family and assured them that the government would leave no stone unturned in uncovering the truth. He informed the family that he had already ordered a high-level inquiry into the case and suspended Krishna Lanka Circle Inspector Nagaraju in connection with the allegations.

The Chief Minister reiterated that anyone found responsible would face strict action, regardless of their position. He emphasized that the investigation would be conducted transparently and fairly to ensure justice for the victim’s family.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Vijaya Lakshmi said she was satisfied with the Chief Minister’s response and expressed confidence that justice would be delivered. She stated that Naidu had assured her that a detailed inquiry would be carried out and that all those found guilty would be punished according to law.

The meeting came a day after former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy visited Vijayawada and met the grieving family. Jagan Mohan Reddy demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), alleging serious concerns over the circumstances of Sai Krishna’s disappearance and suspected custodial death.

According to the family, Sai Krishna, a resident of Krishna Lanka in Vijayawada, was picked up by police on May 9 for questioning in connection with a case. Since then, he has reportedly not been seen, raising fears that he may have died while in police custody.

Seeking legal intervention, Vijaya Lakshmi filed a Habeas Corpus petition before the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Acting on the petition, the court directed Krishna Lanka police to produce Sai Krishna before it on June 15. When police failed to do so, the court extended the deadline and ordered authorities to produce him by June 29.

Responding to the growing controversy, Chief Minister Naidu on June 17 ordered an inquiry to be conducted by a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. As part of the investigation, East Godavari Superintendent of Police D. Narasimha Kishore was assigned to lead the probe and subsequently arrived in Vijayawada to begin collecting evidence.

Investigators have already recorded statements from Vijaya Lakshmi and other family members as part of the ongoing inquiry. Meanwhile, police have formally registered a criminal case against the suspended Circle Inspector Nagaraju.

Based on the complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, authorities booked the officer under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to wrongful confinement, murder, and destruction of evidence.

The case has generated widespread public attention and political debate, with opposition leaders demanding accountability and transparency. As investigations continue, the focus remains on establishing the facts surrounding Sai Krishna’s disappearance and ensuring that those responsible, if any, are brought to justice.
