Asha Bawane of Chandrapur Honored with ‘National Florence Nightingale Award’ by President Draupadi Murmu

New Delhi : President Draupadi Murmu felicitated 15 nurses and attendants for their selfless service in the health sector with the National Florence Nightingale Award. Among them, Asha Bawane, a nurse from Government Medical College and Hospital in Chandrapur, Maharashtra, was recognized for her outstanding contribution to healthcare over the past 28 years. The award includes a cash prize of one lakh rupees and a citation.

Asha Bawane has made a significant impact in healthcare, particularly in tribal and remote areas. She has played a key role in controlling diarrheal outbreaks, supporting healthcare during the Hajj pilgrimage, and contributing to various national health programs. Her efforts during the COVID-19 vaccination campaign were especially commendable.

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, Union Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel, and Health Secretary Apoorva Chandra were present at the award ceremony.

The National Florence Nightingale Awards have been presented since 1973, and by 2023, 614 nurses and attendants have been honored for their exceptional service.
