In honour of Veerangana Rani Durgavati Cabinet meeting to be held in her ancient capital
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has said that Veerangana Rani Durgavati’s contribution is historic. Known for her bravery, she was skilled in leading battle. She consistently defeated the invaders. After winning 51 consecutive battles, her last battle was also inspiring, in which she ended her life by stabbing herself with a dagger instead of being killed by enemies. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the cabinet meeting will be held in the capital of Veerangana Rani Durgavati and various programmes will be organised at other places related to the life of Rani Durgavati. There is a fort of Singaurgarh near Singhrampur village in Damoh district. This area is recorded in history as the capital of Veerangana Rani Durgavati.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav directed to expedite the Rani Durgavati Memorial Site works and Garden being constructed at a cost of Rs 100 crore in Jabalpur in memory of Veerangana. These works should also be reviewed continuously. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of this memorial site. The agency is Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation.
CM Dr. Yadav also directed to organize a special programme on the birth anniversary of Veerangana on 05 October. The Chief Minister said that the Madhya Pradesh government had organised the first Cabinet meeting in Jabalpur on 3 January 2024 in honour of Veerangana Rani Durgavati. Along with this, Rani Durgavati Sri Anna Protsahan Yojana was also started in the name of Veerangana.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that Veerangana Rani Durgavati took over the reins of the Gondwana Empire to protect her kingdom after the death of her husband Dalpat Shah. The administrative system in her kingdom was such that taxes were paid by giving gold coins and elephants. The Veerangana got many lakes constructed in Jabalpur including Ranital, Cherital and Aadhartal. She encouraged education and traditional knowledge. Many temples and dharamshalas were also constructed.
Principal Secretary Culture Shri Sheo Shekhar Shukla informed that a radio serial focusing on the famous 52 forts of Rani Durgavati is being broadcast continuously. A research work has been published on the achievements of art and architecture of the Veerangana and her subsequent rulers. The Culture Department has organised activities like making documentaries on the life of the Veerangana, dance dramas, singing programmes and displaying the life story of the Veerangana through exhibitions. It is proposed to organize essay and article writing competitions centered on the life of the Veerangana in educational institutions.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Jagdish Deora, Urban Development and Housing Minister Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya, Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Shri Prahlad Patel, School Education Minister Shri Uday Pratap Singh, Minister of State for Culture and Tourism (Independent Charge) Shri Dharmendra Singh Lodhi, Chief Secretary Smt. Veera Rana, Additional Chief Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office Dr. Rajesh Rajoura and concerned officers were present in the meeting.
