Revanth Reddy Warns Congress Leaders of Action Over Lapses in Voter Roll Revision Drive
Hyderabad, June 2026 : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday issued a stern warning to Congress leaders and party functionaries, cautioning that strict action would be taken against those failing to follow party directives regarding the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Addressing a Zoom meeting with Congress leaders on the voter list revision exercise, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of the process and called upon ministers, MPs, MLAs and constituency in-charges to remain highly vigilant amid concerns that genuine voters could be removed from electoral rolls during the revision drive.
Revanth Reddy made it clear that accountability would be enforced at every level of the party organization. He warned that constituency in-charges who failed to implement the party’s instructions effectively could be replaced.
“We will not tolerate negligence. The performance of all in-charges is being closely monitored over the next 10 days,” the Chief Minister said, according to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
Describing the voter revision exercise as a matter of serious political and democratic significance, the Chief Minister expressed concern over reports that some party leaders were not showing adequate commitment to the campaign.
“The SIR issue is extremely important. Unfortunately, some leaders are not treating it with the seriousness it deserves,” he remarked, emphasizing that any complacency could adversely affect the party and the voting rights of citizens.
Revanth Reddy also appealed to Congress-backed sarpanches and grassroots leaders to actively participate in the campaign by organizing awareness programmes in villages and educating voters about the revision process. He urged local leaders to ensure that eligible voters complete all necessary formalities so that their names remain on the electoral rolls.
The Chief Minister said he had already reviewed district-wise reports on awareness programmes conducted so far and warned that he would not remain a silent spectator if the party suffered due to negligence at the local level.
To strengthen the campaign, he instructed party leaders to organize more awareness meetings across the state and assigned additional responsibilities to in-charge ministers to ensure wider outreach and public participation.
Highlighting the broader implications of voter registration, Revanth Reddy said protecting the voting rights of the poor and marginalized sections must remain a top priority.
“The voting rights of the poor should be safeguarded. If they lose their votes, it could also impact access to important identity and welfare documents such as Aadhaar and ration cards,” he said, stressing the need for vigilance during the verification process.
The Chief Minister reiterated that all Congress leaders and workers must strictly adhere to party guidelines and work collectively to ensure that no genuine voter is excluded from the electoral rolls.
The meeting was attended by Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Mahesh Kumar Goud, AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, AICC Secretary Sachin Sawant and several senior party leaders.
During the discussion, Mahesh Kumar Goud emphasized that Congress workers have a crucial responsibility in protecting the rights of legitimate voters. He urged party cadres to remain alert and monitor developments closely, particularly in light of concerns raised over voter deletions in other states.
Referring to reports of voter list controversies in West Bengal, Goud said Congress workers in Telangana must stay vigilant and ensure that no eligible voter is denied the right to participate in the democratic process.
The high-level review meeting came a day before the Election Commission’s door-to-door verification exercise was scheduled to begin in Telangana. Under the SIR programme, Booth-Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct statewide verification from June 25 to July 24 as part of efforts to update and authenticate electoral rolls ahead of future elections.
