Adani Group to Build 2,000-Bed Hospital in Kolkata’s New Town, Half the Beds Reserved for Free Treatment

Kolkata, July 2026 : The Adani Group will establish a state-of-the-art 2,000-bed multi-speciality hospital in Kolkata’s New Town area, with half of its capacity dedicated to providing free treatment to economically weaker sections, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced on Saturday.

Addressing members of civil society in his Bhabanipur Assembly constituency, the Chief Minister said the conglomerate has formally committed to developing the healthcare facility, which is expected to significantly strengthen medical infrastructure in the state.

“The Adani Group has submitted a written commitment to build a modern 2,000-bed hospital in New Town. Out of these, 1,000 beds will be reserved for free treatment of poor patients, while the remaining 1,000 beds will operate on a commercial basis,” Adhikari said while highlighting key initiatives undertaken by his government during the past two months.

The interaction was organised by the Alipore Citizens’ Association and attended by prominent members of the local community.

The proposed hospital is expected to become one of eastern India’s largest healthcare institutions, offering advanced medical facilities while ensuring affordable access to quality treatment for underprivileged patients. The initiative reflects the growing role of public-private partnerships in expanding healthcare infrastructure across the country.

The announcement comes amid the Adani Group’s increasing focus on healthcare and social welfare initiatives through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes and philanthropic partnerships.

Earlier this year, the group launched the ACE-Adani Centre for Eye Diseases in Bihar in collaboration with Akhand Jyoti Hospital and the Adani Foundation. The project aims to provide accessible and affordable eye care services, particularly for underserved communities.

As part of the initiative, the ATOM-Adani Training Centre for Ophthalmic Medicine was also established to train a new generation of ophthalmologists and women healthcare workers, helping address the shortage of skilled eye-care professionals in the country.

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani had said the initiative was part of the company’s broader vision to expand quality eye care services across India.

“Restoring a person’s eyesight is not merely medical treatment, but a way of bringing back hope, confidence and dignity in their life,” Adani had remarked during a visit to Mastichak in Bihar, where he also commended the social service efforts of Gayatri Parivar and Akhand Jyoti Hospital.

The group has also expanded its footprint in renal healthcare. Last year, under its CSR programme, the Adani Group partnered with Adharshila Trust to strengthen dialysis services at Smt. Sucheta Kriplani Hospital, a teaching institution affiliated with Lady Hardinge Medical College in New Delhi.

The expansion of the Adharshila Renal Care Project has enhanced dialysis facilities within Delhi’s public healthcare system, reinforcing the group’s growing commitment to improving access to specialised medical services.

With the proposed 2,000-bed hospital in New Town, the Adani Group is set to make one of its largest healthcare investments in eastern India, combining world-class medical infrastructure with a significant social commitment by reserving half of the facility’s beds for free treatment of underprivileged patients.
