“Minister Lalrinpuii Honors Pi H. Mankimi, National Florence Nightingale Award 2024 Winner”
Aizawl : Pi H. Mankimi, Ward Superintendent (Retd.) of Serchhip IOC Veng, one of the 15 recipients of the prestigious National Florence Nightingale Award 2024, was honored in a gratitude ceremony today at 2:00 p.m. by Health & Family Welfare Minister Pi Lalrinpuii at MINECO.
Minister Pi Lalrinpuii congratulated Pi H. Mankimi for receiving the highly esteemed National Florence Nightingale Award, expressing her heartfelt admiration. She emphasized the importance of dedicated nurses like Pi H. Mankimi, whose hard work and significant contributions inspire others. Minister Lalrinpuii noted that nursing is a noble profession that requires not only skill but also dedication, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to patient care. She also urged nurses to take pride in their roles, as they are key contributors to the well-being and health of society.
Pi H. Mankimi, in her speech, expressed gratitude to the Health & Family Welfare Minister for organizing the ceremony. She shared her experiences as a nurse, highlighting the importance of perseverance, dedication, and teamwork in the nursing profession. She also encouraged other nurses to continue their invaluable work with passion and diligence.
The ceremony was led by Secretary of the H&FW Department, Pi Sangchhin Chinzah, with a report on the National Florence Nightingale Award presented by Pi Lalchhanhimi, Joint Director, Directorate of Nursing. Dr. Lalremmawii, Director of Health Services, also addressed the gathering, closing the event.
The Selection Committee under the Health & Family Welfare Department had nominated three nurses from Mizoram for the National Florence Nightingale Award this year, with Pi H. Mankimi being selected for the prestigious honor. During the nomination process, Pi H. Mankimi was serving as Ward Superintendent at Serchhip District Hospital.
The National Florence Nightingale Award has been presented by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, since 1973. Mizoram has had four recipients up to 1983, and after a gap of around 20 years, the awards resumed in 2007. Since then, 12 more nurses from Mizoram have received the award, bringing the total to 16.
In 2024, 15 nurses across India were selected for the award. Pi H. Mankimi’s primary contribution was in the field of Maternal & Child Healthcare, particularly in aiding mothers and children facing challenging health issues. Her commitment to in-service training and application of her skills were among the reasons she was selected for this prestigious award.
On 11th September 2024, President of India, Pi Droupadi Murmu, presented the National Florence Nightingale Awards 2024 to 15 exemplary nurses, including Pi H. Mankimi, in a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Pi H. Mankimi began her nursing career in 1986 after completing her General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) training at Durtlang Hospital. After three years of service at Durtlang Hospital, she joined the government service on 7th September 1991. She was appointed as Ward Superintendent at Serchhip District Hospital on 5th March 2023 and retired from this position in March of this year.
