ICC Chairman Jay Shah Meets Tennis Legend John McEnroe at Wimbledon Final

New Delhi, July 2026 : International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Jay Shah met American tennis legend John McEnroe on the sidelines of the Wimbledon Championships, describing the seven-time Grand Slam winner as one of the sport’s greatest icons whose influence continues to inspire generations of athletes.

Sharing a photograph of the meeting on social media platform X, Shah expressed his admiration for the former World No. 1 and highlighted McEnroe’s lasting contribution to tennis.

“It was a privilege to meet tennis legend John McEnroe on the sidelines of the Wimbledon final. An icon of the sport whose passion, personality and achievements have left an enduring mark on the game of tennis. Wonderful to exchange a few moments with one of the true greats of the sport,” Shah wrote.

The interaction took place during the Wimbledon finals weekend at the iconic Centre Court of the All England Club, where the world’s top players battled for one of tennis’ most prestigious titles. The championship attracted several prominent personalities from the global sporting fraternity, reflecting Wimbledon’s status as one of the biggest events on the international sporting calendar.

Earlier in the day, Czech ninth seed Linda Noskova created history by defeating compatriot Karolina Muchova in a thrilling women’s singles final to capture her maiden Wimbledon title and first Grand Slam crown. Noskova prevailed 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 in a gripping contest that lasted over two hours.

The 21-year-old displayed remarkable composure after surrendering the second set despite holding multiple match points. She recovered strongly in the decider, producing consistent baseline tennis and maintaining her nerve during crucial moments to secure the biggest victory of her career.

Noskova’s powerful serving proved to be one of the decisive factors in the final. She struck 10 aces compared to Muchova’s six and enjoyed a marginally better first-serve percentage of 75 percent against her opponent’s 71 percent. She also won 74 percent of points on her first serve and converted four of her 13 break-point opportunities.

Although Muchova mounted a spirited comeback to force a deciding set after taking the second set 7-5, Noskova regained control with aggressive shot-making and disciplined play from the baseline. The young Czech finished with 109 total points compared to Muchova’s 92 and won 17 games overall, underlining her consistency throughout the championship match.

Noskova’s triumph capped a breakthrough Wimbledon campaign and established her among the brightest rising stars in women’s tennis. Meanwhile, Muchova concluded another impressive run at the All England Club as the runner-up.

The Wimbledon finals weekend also featured the men’s singles title clash between World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and Germany’s Alexander Zverev, adding further excitement to one of the most celebrated tournaments in world sport.
