Yogi govt to establish high-tech nurseries across 73 districts to boost fruit and vegetable production
Lucknow : In a significant move to enhance agricultural productivity, the Yogi government is set to establish high-tech nurseries across 73 districts in Uttar Pradesh, excluding Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida) and Ghaziabad. This initiative aims to not only increase the yield of fruits and vegetables, but also improve their overall quality.
The nurseries will be designed based on the agro-climatic conditions of each district, ensuring that the plant species selected are well-suited to local environments. The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of each district, along with affiliated universities and the Horticulture Department, will collaborate to determine the appropriate plant varieties.
These high-tech nurseries, funded through MNREGA, will be built to maintain controlled temperature and humidity, resulting in disease-free plants. As a result, the produce will be of superior quality, leading to higher yields and more reasonable prices. This, in turn, is expected to boost the income of farmers and gardeners.
To date, 36 such nurseries have been established, with plans to initiate 16 more soon. The focus on high-tech nurseries aligns with the Yogi and Modi governments’ broader objective of supporting the agricultural sector, which is a cornerstone of Uttar Pradesh’s economy.
Uttar Pradesh’s economy heavily relies on agriculture, with fruits and vegetables playing a crucial role. Scientific studies indicate that these crops offer significant employment opportunities and contribute to nutritional security. The new nurseries are expected to bolster these benefits by optimizing local cultivation practices.
Uttar Pradesh, with its nine agro-climatic zones, offers vast potential for diverse fruit and vegetable cultivation. Approximately 77% of the state’s land is cultivable, with 85% of it irrigated, providing ample opportunities for agricultural development. The presence of a large labor force and robust market further supports this potential.
The Yogi government’s commitment to agricultural development also includes promoting exports. With ongoing infrastructure projects such as the expressways, international airports, and the waterway from Prayagraj to Haldia, and plans to extend the waterway to Ayodhya and build cargo hubs in 13 districts, the potential for exporting agricultural products is set to increase significantly.
This comprehensive approach underscores the government’s dedication to advancing the agricultural sector and improving the economic prospects for farmers and gardeners in Uttar Pradesh.
