MoU Signed for International Cricket Stadium in Kolhapur in the Presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar

World-Class Sports Infrastructure to Boost Opportunities for Athletes

Mumbai, July 2026 : A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Kolhapur District Cricket Association (KDCA) and the Maharashtra Sports Department for the construction of an international-standard cricket stadium in Kolhapur. The agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Sports & Youth Welfare Sunetra Ajit Pawar at Mantralaya on Tuesday.

The project aims to provide world-class sporting facilities for athletes and transform Kolhapur into a major sports destination.

The event was attended by Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif, Minister Chandrakant (Dada) Patil, Minister Shivendrasinhraje Bhosale, Public Health Minister and Kolhapur Guardian Minister Prakash Abitkar, Executive Chairman of the State Planning Board Rajesh Kshirsagar, MLA Amal Mahadik, KDCA President Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje, Principal Secretary of the Sports Department Ranjit Singh Deol, Kolhapur District Collector Dr. Vijay Rathod, Deputy Secretary of the Sports Department Abasaheb Kavale, Joint Director of Sports and Youth Services Sudhir More, along with KDCA executive members Ramchandra Patankar, Ruturaj Ingale, Abhijit Bhosale, and Madan Shelke.

The proposed facility will go beyond cricket and be developed as a multi-sports hub featuring state-of-the-art infrastructure for boxing, judo, archery, wrestling, swimming, table tennis, fencing, and several other sports. A dedicated Cricket Museum will also be established, while the project is expected to generate significant employment opportunities for local residents.

Under the agreement, 12.76 hectares (31.90 acres) of government land at Vikaswadi village in Karveer taluka has been transferred to the Kolhapur District Cricket Association for the development of the international cricket stadium and allied sports infrastructure.

The lease agreement was signed by KDCA President Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje and Deputy Director of Sports and Youth Services, Kolhapur, Suhas Patil.

The stadium will be built in accordance with the standards prescribed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) and will have a seating capacity of approximately 35,000 spectators.

The project will include a modern pavilion, practice grounds, indoor training centre, sports science centre, clubhouse, floodlighting system, cricket museum, parking facilities for players, officials and spectators, internal roads, drainage infrastructure, a solar power project, and an advanced security system.

The Maharashtra government said the project aligns with its vision of creating world-class sports infrastructure across the state while strengthening Kolhapur’s rich sporting legacy. The stadium is expected to boost cricket in the district, provide modern training facilities for talented athletes from rural areas, and encourage sports tourism. Officials added that the project will also contribute significantly to the local economy by creating new business and employment opportunities.
