SSS Defence Targets 40,000 Weapons Production in 2026, Eyes Major Export Expansion

New Delhi, July 2026 : Bengaluru-based SSS Defence has announced an ambitious production target of approximately 40,000 indigenous weapons in 2026, underscoring the rapid growth of India’s private defence manufacturing sector. The planned output includes a wide range of rifles, carbines, sniper systems and shotguns for both domestic security forces and international customers.

The company intends to accelerate its expansion further by increasing annual production to nearly 1,00,000 weapons by 2027, positioning itself among Asia’s leading private manufacturers of small arms. The aggressive scale-up comes amid rising demand for indigenously developed defence equipment under the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.

SSS Defence has steadily established itself as one of India’s most prominent private-sector defence manufacturers by developing advanced small arms, precision barrels, suppressors and match-grade ammunition. The company is increasingly gaining recognition in overseas markets, with exports expected to contribute nearly half of its total revenue during the current financial year.

Chief Executive Officer Pavan Krishnan said the company has already secured defence contracts in Armenia, Nepal and several European countries, reflecting growing international confidence in Indian-designed weapon systems. Among its notable achievements, Armenia became the first foreign military to induct an Indian-designed sniper rifle, marking an important milestone for India’s indigenous defence industry.

Beyond complete weapon systems, the company is also supplying precision-engineered barrels, suppressors and specialised ammunition to European defence firms, further strengthening its presence in the global defence supply chain.

SSS Defence currently holds an order pipeline of nearly 40,000 weapons, which is expected to increase to around 60,000 units by the end of the financial year. The healthy order book provides a strong foundation for its manufacturing expansion while highlighting increasing demand from both Indian security agencies and overseas customers.

The company’s rapid growth aligns with India’s broader strategy of reducing dependence on imported defence equipment while encouraging domestic innovation and manufacturing capabilities. Private defence companies are increasingly complementing public-sector efforts by developing world-class products capable of competing in international markets.

However, scaling production from 40,000 to 1,00,000 weapons within a year will require significant investments in manufacturing infrastructure, skilled manpower, quality control systems and resilient supply chains. Defence exports also remain subject to stringent regulatory approvals and geopolitical considerations, which could influence delivery schedules and market access.

Despite these challenges, SSS Defence’s expansion reflects the growing maturity of India’s private defence ecosystem. By combining indigenous technology with export competitiveness, the company is contributing to India’s emergence as a credible global supplier of advanced defence equipment.
