Agra, July 2026: Sunday turned out to be a landmark day for teachers and employees associated with Uttar Pradesh’s Higher Education Department. At a special event held at the Khandari Campus, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath unveiled two major welfare initiatives aimed at strengthening the health and social security of teaching and non-teaching staff.

The Chief Minister formally launched the Mukhyamantri Shikshak Cashless Medical Facility Scheme, while the Higher Education Department also signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Punjab National Bank (PNB). Together, these initiatives are expected to provide comprehensive healthcare and financial security to teachers and their families.

Under the MoU with PNB, teachers and non-teaching staff will now receive personal accident insurance coverage of up to ₹1.5 crore. In addition, they will be entitled to ₹3 crore air accident insurance, hospital cash benefits of up to ₹60,000, and term life insurance coverage of up to ₹12 lakh. The initiative is designed to offer a robust financial safety net and greater peace of mind to education professionals.

Two Major Benefits of the Mukhyamantri Teacher Cashless Medical Scheme

1. Free Medical Treatment up to ₹5 Lakh for Every Family

The Mukhyamantri Cashless Medical Facility Scheme will directly benefit more than 1.28 lakh teachers and their dependent family members working in state universities, government-aided colleges, and self-financed higher education institutions.

Under the scheme, every eligible family will receive cashless treatment worth up to ₹5 lakh annually at empanelled government and private hospitals. One of the scheme’s key highlights is that beneficiaries will be able to use the facility from the very first day their card is issued. The government will bear the entire cost of hospitalisation, treatment, medicines, and discharge within the prescribed limits.

2. Coverage for Cancer, Heart Disease and Other Critical Illnesses

The scheme will be implemented by the State Agency for Comprehensive Health and Integrated Services (SACHIS) and will follow the package rates prescribed under the Ayushman Bharat programme.

Beneficiaries will have access to treatment packages covering more than 1,900 diseases, including serious and high-cost illnesses such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, kidney disorders, and major surgical procedures at empanelled government and private hospitals. Special drives will also be organised across all districts to distribute health cards to eligible beneficiaries.

Teachers and staff who received the benefits of the long-awaited schemes expressed their happiness and thanked Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for addressing their long-pending demands.

Dr. Mukesh Chand, a beneficiary teacher, said:
“This scheme is a huge relief for us. We will no longer have to take loans for the treatment of serious illnesses. The Yogi government’s initiative is truly commendable.”

Dr. Rajnath, another beneficiary, remarked:
“The Yogi government has fulfilled a long-standing demand of teachers. It reflects the government’s deep sensitivity towards the teaching community.”

Dharmendra Kumar Chaudhary said:
“The accident insurance and term life insurance have provided our families with strong financial security for the future, something we never had before.”

Dr. Ravi Kant Pathak added:
“With coverage for critical illnesses such as cancer and heart disease, we can now focus on our teaching responsibilities without worrying about medical expenses.”

Dr. Monika Asthana noted:
“Healthcare security has always been a major concern for women and their dependent family members. This ₹5 lakh cashless medical card offers tremendous peace of mind.”
