PTI to Move Court After Lahore Administration Fails to Clear August 5 Protest

Islamabad, July 2026 : Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced that it will approach the courts after the Lahore administration failed to respond to its request for permission to hold a peaceful protest on August 5, a day the party plans to launch a nationwide movement demanding the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Speaking at a press conference at the Lahore Press Club, PTI Lahore President Mian Akram Usman said the party had formally sought approval from Lahore Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza to organise a peaceful gathering but had received no response from the authorities. Describing the silence as unacceptable, Usman said PTI would now seek judicial intervention to ensure that its democratic right to protest is protected.

“We submitted our application for a peaceful rally, but no reply has been given. We will approach the court and proceed with our August 5 programme,” he said.

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja strongly criticised the treatment of party founder Imran Khan, claiming that the former Prime Minister remains in solitary confinement despite facing nearly 300 legal cases. He alleged that Khan has been denied adequate access to his lawyers and argued that recent constitutional changes had weakened public confidence in Pakistan’s judicial system.

Raja said the August 5 mobilisation was a direct call from Imran Khan and his sisters, expressing hope that people across Pakistan would participate in large numbers. He maintained that the movement would be peaceful and aimed at demanding justice and the restoration of democratic rights.

The decision to launch the nationwide campaign was taken last week during a meeting of the PTI Parliamentary Committee chaired by interim party chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to party leaders, August 5 marks three years since Imran Khan’s imprisonment, making it a symbolic date for the campaign.

PTI leaders said the movement would include public meetings, demonstrations and a long march across the country. Salman Akram Raja also noted that the party plans to consult senior political allies, including Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, before finalising the strategy and schedule of the protests.

Addressing the media after the committee meeting, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said discussions also focused on the health of Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi. He alleged that the courts had failed to deliver justice in the former Prime Minister’s cases and called for an end to what he described as continued injustice.

The planned protests are expected to intensify political tensions in Pakistan as PTI seeks to rally public support while pursuing legal avenues to secure permission for its demonstrations.
