Former BRS MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy Dies at 52

Hyderabad, July 2026 : Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy died at a private hospital in Hyderabad on Friday. He was 52. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Sudarshan Reddy had been undergoing treatment after suffering a cardiac arrest on July 26. He was initially rushed to a local hospital after falling critically ill at his residence in Hanamkonda and was later shifted to Hyderabad, where he remained on ventilator support.

According to doctors, he suffered a cardiac arrest triggered by a pulmonary embolism, a condition caused by a blood clot blocking blood flow to the lungs. Although doctors managed to revive him after around 45 minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), his condition remained critical due to a lack of neurological response.

Medical examinations subsequently indicated severe brain damage resulting from prolonged oxygen deprivation. He died in the early hours of Friday.

A prominent political figure from the erstwhile Warangal district, Sudarshan Reddy was actively involved in the movement for the creation of Telangana. He was elected to the Telangana Legislative Assembly from Narsampet constituency in 2018, after an unsuccessful attempt in the 2014 elections.

From 2018 to 2023, he served as Chairman of the Telangana State Civil Supplies Corporation and was also a member of the Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee.

Born on August 6, 1974, into an agricultural family, Sudarshan Reddy began his political journey with the Youth Congress. He later joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), founded by former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao in 2001.

He was elected as a Zilla Parishad Territorial Committee (ZPTC) member from Nallabelli mandal and subsequently served as the Zilla Parishad Floor Leader. He also headed the party in the undivided Warangal district and served as a member of the TRS state politburo.

During the Telangana statehood movement, Sudarshan Reddy played an active role in public meetings, rallies and other programmes, particularly across Warangal. His close association with KCR’s family and his organisational skills earned him an important position within the party.

Although he contested the 2014 Assembly election from Narsampet as a TRS candidate and lost, he succeeded in his second attempt in 2018 and entered the state Assembly.

The news of his death prompted condolences from leaders across the political spectrum.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed shock and grief over Sudarshan Reddy’s demise and said his contribution to the Telangana movement would remain unforgettable. The Chief Minister conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family and his supporters.

BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao also expressed profound grief, describing the death as an irreparable loss to Telangana. KCR said he had lost a close friend and a trusted associate who had stood with him during the Telangana movement.

BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao said he was deeply shocked and saddened by the former MLA’s death. He recalled that party leaders had remained hopeful that Sudarshan Reddy would recover during his hospitalisation.

Rama Rao said the contribution made by Sudarshan Reddy to the movement for Telangana’s formation would always be remembered, and described his passing as deeply heartbreaking for the party and the state.
