The NDMC organized a cultural program in honor of sanitation workers under the “Swachhta Hi Seva Abhiyan.
To recognize the crucial role cleaners play in maintaining a clean and healthy capital, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), in association with the National School of Drama, held a special function at Navayug School, Sarojini Nagar, New Delhi. The event featured a cultural program.
In the program, titled “By the Cleaners, for the Cleaners,” the cleaners themselves presented a variety of music, dance, and artistic performances, showcasing their hidden talents to their family members, who were the guests of honor.

In addition to the performances by the cleaners, students from Navayug School and Atal Adarsh Vidyalaya participated in the cultural evening, demonstrating their extracurricular talents and commitment to cleanliness. Representatives from the prestigious National School of Drama (NSD) also gave a special performance, adding to the appeal of the event.
This cultural festival is part of the “Swachhta Hi Seva Abhiyan 2024,” which runs from 17th September to 2nd October each year. As a segment of the larger Swachh Bharat Mission, the campaign aims to enhance citizen participation and awareness about cleanliness.
Through this program, the NDMC emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions of sweepers, who are the backbone of the city’s sanitation efforts. This event serves as a small gesture of appreciation for their hard work and dedication.
The initiative aligns with the Swachhta Hi Seva (SHS) 2024 campaign, whose theme this year is “Swabhav Swachhta – Sanskar Swachhata” (Personal Hygiene – Cultural Hygiene), promoting citizen participation and collective responsibility in maintaining sanitation across the city.

The Swachhta Hi Seva Abhiyan 2024 not only celebrates the achievements of sanitation workers but also encourages ongoing efforts to make India waste-free. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission, making the occasion even more significant.
Present at the event were NDMC-MOH Dr. Deepak Mittal, CMO Dr. Shakuntala Srivastava, Dr. Ankita Rai, Dr. Vijay Patel, cleanliness inspectors, cleaners, teachers, students, parents, senior NDMC officers, and heads of other departments.
