Gandhi Jayanti Observance by the Governor and Other Dignitaries
Aizawl : Today marks the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, known and revered as the Father of the Nation. To commemorate this day, at 7:30 AM tomorrow morning, Governor Shri Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, along with several prominent officials of the Mizoram government, will lay a wreath and pay homage at the Gandhi statue located at the PUC Campus, College Veng. Participating in the ceremony will be Mizoram Legislative Assembly Speaker Pu Lalbiakzama, five ministers—Pu Vanlalhlana, Pu C. Lalsawivunga, Dr. Vanlalthlana, Pu Lalthansanga, Prof. Lalnilawma—and Assembly Deputy Speaker Pu Lalfamkima. Additionally, Chief Secretary Dr. Renu Sharma and other senior government officials will also be present to pay their respects.
Following the ceremony, the Governor will launch a Cleanliness Drive under the Swachhata Hi Seva initiative, where he will lead a “Shramdaan” (community service) effort to clean the surroundings.
It is noteworthy that since 2005, October 2nd—Gandhi’s birth anniversary—has been officially recognized by the United Nations as the International Day of Non-Violence.
