PM Modi to Inaugurate Bhogapuram International Airport on August 1; Chandrababu Naidu Calls It a Game-Changer for North Andhra

New Delhi, July 2026 : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and presented him with a handcrafted portrait of Lord Venkateswara of Tirupati, showcasing the state’s rich artistic and cultural heritage. The meeting came ahead of Prime Minister Modi’s scheduled visit to Andhra Pradesh on August 1 to inaugurate the much-awaited Bhogapuram International Airport, a landmark infrastructure project expected to transform the economic landscape of North Andhra.

The Prime Minister’s Office acknowledged the meeting in a post on X, stating, “Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Shri @ncbn met Prime Minister @narendramodi.” The interaction underscored the close coordination between the Centre and the Andhra Pradesh government on key developmental initiatives, particularly those aimed at enhancing infrastructure and regional connectivity.

Earlier this week, Chief Minister Naidu had announced that Prime Minister Modi would formally inaugurate the Bhogapuram International Airport on August 1. Describing the project as a defining milestone for North Andhra, Naidu said the airport would become a symbol of the region’s progress and usher in a new era of economic growth, investment and employment.

According to an official release, the Bhogapuram International Airport project was originally launched during the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government’s tenure in 2014. After the formation of the present coalition government, construction gained significant momentum and the project was completed within two years. The Andhra Pradesh government is now preparing for a grand inauguration ceremony, with extensive arrangements being made to celebrate the occasion.

As part of these preparations, Chief Minister Naidu chaired a high-level review meeting on Saturday to assess the readiness of the airport and the inauguration event. The meeting was attended by Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, Andhra Pradesh Minister Nadendla Manohar, BJP State President P.V.N. Madhav, Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta, Ministers Satya Kumar Yadav, K. Atchannaidu and Vangalapudi Anitha, along with senior government officials.

Officials from the Civil Aviation Department and representatives of GMR, the company responsible for constructing the airport, briefed the Chief Minister on the status of infrastructure, passenger facilities and operational preparedness. They informed him that all eight mandatory statutory clearances required for commencing airport operations had already been secured, clearing the way for commercial services after the inauguration.

Addressing the review meeting, Naidu described Bhogapuram International Airport as a transformational project that would reshape the future of North Andhra. He said the airport would significantly improve connectivity, attract investments, boost trade and create new opportunities for businesses, industries and tourism. According to the Chief Minister, enhanced air connectivity would not only make travel more convenient but also improve the overall quality of life for people across the region.

Naidu drew a comparison with Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad, which played a pivotal role in transforming the city’s economy over the past two decades. He expressed confidence that Bhogapuram Airport would have a similar impact on North Andhra, acting as a catalyst for rapid urbanisation, industrial expansion and regional development.

He further noted that increased economic activity generated by the airport would create employment across multiple sectors while opening up fresh avenues for entrepreneurship and income generation. The airport, he said, would complement ongoing investments in highways, irrigation projects, ports and other infrastructure initiatives, creating an integrated development ecosystem for the region. Together, these projects would position the Visakha Economic Region as one of India’s emerging growth hubs over the coming years.

The Chief Minister also instructed officials to ensure that every aspect of the airport reflects Andhra Pradesh’s vibrant cultural identity. From architectural elements to interior décor, he said the facility should celebrate the state’s artistic traditions, heritage and craftsmanship. He also emphasised that the inauguration ceremony should showcase the unique tribal culture, handicrafts and folk traditions of North Andhra, presenting them before a national audience.

Calling the inauguration a historic milestone, Naidu urged officials to transform the event into a celebration involving people from every section of society. He said every family in North Andhra should feel connected to the occasion and take pride in the airport, which he described as a project that belongs to the people of the region. Special efforts, he added, should be made to encourage participation by students and young people, ensuring that the inauguration becomes a memorable festival marking the beginning of a new chapter in Andhra Pradesh’s development journey.

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to inaugurate Bhogapuram International Airport on August 1, Andhra Pradesh is preparing to unveil one of its most ambitious infrastructure projects. The airport is expected to significantly strengthen regional connectivity, stimulate tourism, attract domestic and international investment, and accelerate the state’s long-term economic growth, making it one of the most significant development milestones for North Andhra in recent years.
