Registration of Newly Built Vehicles to Be Done Through Dealers
Mumbai : As per the notification by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the National Informatics Centre (NIC) has developed a 4.0 computerized system for the registration of newly fully built vehicles in the transport category. Now, the registration of such fully built tourist taxis, all three-wheeler goods vehicles, and four-wheelers with a gross weight capacity of less than 7,500 kg will be done through authorized vehicle dealers.
The Automobile Association has welcomed this decision and expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. With this new process, vehicle owners will no longer need to bring their vehicles to the transport office for registration, saving them from the hassle. This decision is expected to benefit around 7 to 8 lakh vehicle owners.
The registration rights have been delegated to dealers. The tourist taxi category will include newly built taxis, excluding metered taxis. Previously, the registration of new two-wheelers and cars, which are non-transport vehicles, was done through vehicle distributors. Now, all newly fully built vehicles in the transport category will be registered through authorized vehicle dealers on the 4.0 system. Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar has urged all vehicle dealers to register newly built transport vehicles using the 4.0 computerized system.
