State Cabinet Pays Tribute to Veteran Industrialist Ratan Tata
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Moves Condolence Motion; Request for Bharat Ratna Posthumously
Mumbai : The state cabinet paid tribute to veteran industrialist Padma Vibhushan Ratan Tata during a meeting today, where Chief Minister Eknath Shinde presented a condolence motion. During the session, a proposal was also passed, urging the central government to posthumously award Ratan Tata the Bharat Ratna in recognition of his remarkable contributions.
The condolence motion highlighted that entrepreneurship plays a crucial role in nation-building. While the establishment of new industries is key to national progress, this must be accompanied by genuine patriotism and a deep commitment to society. Ratan Tata was not just a visionary in the industrial sector but also a committed social worker and patriotic leader. His contributions extended beyond business, leaving an indelible mark on social development in India.
The motion further emphasized that Tata, the great-grandson of Tata Group founder Jamshedji Tata, upheld high ethical standards and impeccable discipline in his leadership of the Tata Group. His principled approach to running large enterprises brought both him and India international recognition. As the Chairman and later Interim Chairman of the Tata Group, and head of Tata’s charitable trusts, he exemplified philanthropy and ethical leadership.
The cabinet noted that Ratan Tata’s life and legacy, rooted in ethical values and social responsibility, will continue to serve as an inspiration to entrepreneurs and future generations. From playing a pivotal role in India’s industrial growth post-independence to elevating India’s global standing, Tata’s leadership left a lasting impact.
The Tata name became synonymous with a range of essential products—from cars and salt to computers and tea—due to his stewardship. His contributions to education, health, and social services were also remarkable. He was notably recognized for his steadfastness during crises, such as the 26/11 Mumbai attacks and the COVID-19 pandemic, during which he immediately donated Rs 1,500 crore to the PM Relief Fund and made Tata hotels available for patient care.
Ratan Tata’s unique blend of innovation and philanthropy was central to his success. He established innovation centers to create job opportunities for youth in remote areas like Gadchiroli and consistently encouraged experimentation and achievement among the younger generation. Maharashtra benefited greatly from his leadership and guidance, as evidenced by his receipt of the first ‘Udyog Ratna’ award from the state government.
The state cabinet expressed deep sorrow over Ratan Tata’s passing, recognizing it as an irreparable loss for both Maharashtra and the country. On behalf of the citizens of Maharashtra, the cabinet offered heartfelt tributes to this great son of the nation and prayed for his soul’s eternal peace.
