Hezbollah UAV Attack on Israeli Army Base Claims Four Lives, Sparks Tensions
Tel Aviv : Four Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers were killed in a UAV attack launched by the Hezbollah terrorist organization on an Israeli army base on Sunday, the IDF reported. The incident marks a significant escalation amid ongoing tensions in the region.
In an official statement posted on X, the IDF expressed condolences to the bereaved families, emphasizing the need to respect their privacy. “We share in the grief of the families affected and will continue to support them,” the statement read. The IDF also urged the public not to spread unverified information or disclose the identities of the injured, to honor the privacy of those involved.
The UAV strike occurred after the Israeli military detected five projectiles launched from Lebanon, prompting the activation of warning sirens in multiple areas, including Upper Galilee, Central Galilee, Western Galilee, Haifa Bay, and Carmel. Despite the attack, Israel’s air defense systems successfully intercepted all the projectiles, preventing additional casualties or damage.
Earlier on the same day, a large barrage of anti-tank missiles targeted IDF troops stationed in southern Lebanon. The attack left two soldiers severely wounded, while several others sustained moderate to light injuries. The IDF confirmed that all affected families had been notified.
In response to the missile strike, an IDF tank attempted to evacuate the wounded soldiers despite being under heavy fire. The tank inadvertently reversed into a United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) post while retreating. According to the IDF, the tank remained there until the enemy fire ceased, after which it exited the UNIFIL area once the evacuation was complete. A smoke screen was deployed during the operation to cover the evacuation efforts and protect the injured soldiers.
The IDF clarified that throughout the incident, communication was maintained with UNIFIL personnel to ensure their safety. “At no point was UNIFIL’s safety compromised by IDF actions,” the statement noted, underscoring efforts to coordinate with the UN peacekeeping force during the tense situation.
These incidents underscore the escalating hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, with the recent events potentially igniting further conflict. The situation remains highly volatile, as both sides brace for possible retaliation.
