Butterfly meet will be organized in Barnawapara Sanctuary from 21 to 23 October

Butterfly meet will be organized in the sanctuary from 21 to 23 October 2024 under the joint aegis of Forest Department and Barnawapara Sanctuary. Through which nature lovers will get a chance to know and identify butterflies closely. Also, important information regarding the habitat of butterflies and their importance will be shared with the participants by subject experts. This is the third episode of the said event. Earlier this event was organized in 2022 and 2023. Preparations for the butterfly meet have been completed by the department. QR code has also been generated to participate in the event and get information through which registration can be done easily. The registration fee for the participating student in the meet has been kept at Rs 1500 and Rs 2000 for other persons. Along with this, the age limit for participation has been fixed from 18 years to 60 years.

It is noteworthy that 150 species of butterflies and moths are found in Barnawapara Sanctuary. Out of these, Crimson Rose (Pachylopta Hector), Danaid Eagle (Hypocillimus Misippus) of Schedule One of Wildlife Protection Act 1972, Siphora Nirissa, Hogara Annex, Eucrishops Senejus, Genelia Lepidia Rapella Varuna, Lampeders Boihan, Tjuna ​​Ships etc. of Schedule Two are found. Many species of Schedule Six are also found. For the last three years, a group of 14-16 elephants has been residing in Barnawapara Sanctuary. Along with this, a tiger has been roaming in the sanctuary continuously for the last 8 months. The name Barnawapara is formed by combining Bar and Navapara villages. Barnawapara Sanctuary has been attracting tourists from every part of the country since its inception. Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Balodabazar Bhatapara district of Chhattisgarh. The total area of ​​the sanctuary is 244.66 sq km. The topography of the sanctuary is flat and undulating terrain. The elevation is 640 m to sea level. The rivers Balmadehi, Jonk and Mahanadi are the lifeline of the sanctuary which flow along the sanctuary to meet the water shortage of the sanctuary. The annual rainfall is 1200 mm. This sanctuary has the main vegetation of teak, sal and mixed forest. It has a good density of prey and predators to maintain the ecosystem. Many wetland birds and fish are found in the Balar reservoir located inside the sanctuary. This sanctuary promotes ecotourism to create awareness among the people.

To reach Barnawapara, one has to travel by road for two hours from Raipur. It is 106 km from Raipur at the 78th kilometer on NH53. Patewa is a small town which can be reached by driving on a weather friendly road at a distance of 28 km from Barnawapara.
