Masulpani Panchayat of Kanker will receive National Water Award
Masulpani Gram Panchayat of Kanker district will be awarded the National Water Award for its remarkable work in the field of water conservation. President Smt. Draupadi Murmu will honour Masulpani Gram Panchayat of Narharpur development block of Kanker for second place in the Best Panchayat category under the 5th National Water Award at a programme organised at Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on 22 October at 11 am.
It is noteworthy that Union Jal Shakti Minister Shri CR Patil announced the winners of the 5th National Water Awards on 14 October at Shram Shakti Bhavan New Delhi, which includes the names of 38 winners including Masulpani Panchayat of Kanker district. These awards will be given in 9 categories.
Masulpani Gram Panchayat of Kanker district is located at a distance of 5 km from the district headquarters. Masulpani consists of 5 revenue villages and the total area of the Gram Panchayat is 1429 hectares. 90 percent of the population in Masulpani Panchayat belongs to Scheduled Tribes. Masulpani Panchayat has done remarkable work in the field of water conservation. 161 water shed structures have been built in this Gram Panchayat, including 99 farm ponds. Apart from this, 39 number brushwood, one community pond de-silting, 02 wells, 02 underground dams, 03 gabions and other structures have been constructed by the Panchayat during the year 2023. Due to this, people have started using surface water for irrigation. For this innovation towards water conservation and its proper use, Masulpani Gram Panchayat of the district has got second place in the category of best panchayats at the national level.
