Prohibition of Announcement of Post-Voting Plebiscite During Election Period

Mumbai : The Election Commission of India has prohibited the announcement of any type of post-poll public opinion test (exit poll) during the voting period due to the upcoming assembly elections in the state. Additionally, announcing any kind of opinion survey (opinion poll) within forty-eight hours before polling time is also prohibited.

The assembly general elections and the by-election for the Nanded Lok Sabha constituency are scheduled for November 20, 2024. In this context, as notified by the Election Commission of India, from 7:00 AM on November 13, 2024, until 6:30 PM on November 20, 2024, it is prohibited to organize, publish, or disseminate the results of any exit poll through newspapers, electronic media, or any other means regarding the Assembly General Elections and the by-elections for the Nanded Lok Sabha constituency.

Furthermore, under Section 126 (1) (b) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the display of election-related content, including any opinion poll or election survey forecast in electronic media, is prohibited during the 48 hours leading up to the close of polling. The Election Commission of India has clarified that these regulations will be strictly enforced.
