Governor Celebrates 9th National Ayurveda Day in Mizoram

Aizawl : The 9th National Ayurveda Day was celebrated today at the Assembly Annexe Conference Hall in Aizawl, with Mizoram Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati gracing the occasion as the chief guest. The event, organized by the Directorate of AYUSH under the Health & Family Welfare Department, was themed “Ayurveda Innovations for Global Health.” The event was also attended by Mizoram’s Health & Family Welfare Minister, Pi Lalrinpuii, as the guest of honor.

In his speech, Governor Dr. Kambhampati highlighted Ayurveda’s deep-rooted role as a “way of life” in India, emphasizing its holistic approach to wellness through the balance of mind, body, and spirit. He noted Ayurveda’s global rise in popularity for managing conditions such as mental health issues, cancer, stroke, and diabetes. He also expressed that integrating Ayurveda with Mizoram’s rich biodiversity and traditional knowledge could significantly enhance the healthcare system in the region.

Dr. Kambhampati further emphasized the global appeal of Ayurveda, noting that it is now practiced in 24 countries with many educational institutions adopting its principles. He pointed out that the Ministry of AYUSH has facilitated the export of over 100 Ayurvedic products and encouraged AYUSH practitioners and researchers to remain committed to authentic Ayurvedic practices while urging government bodies, research institutions, and entrepreneurs to innovate in this field.

Guest of honor, Health Minister Pi Lalrinpuii, spoke on Ayurveda’s role in tackling modern health challenges such as pandemics, lifestyle diseases, and mental health issues. She detailed ongoing initiatives, including a 1.2 crore project for the cultivation and processing of medicinal plants, integrating AYUSH with mainstream healthcare, and collaborating with educational institutions for research. She also highlighted efforts to include medicinal plants in the government’s hand-holding policy.

The event also included a welcome address by Dr. Vanlalsawma, Director of AYUSH, and a presentation on Ayurveda’s history and current initiatives in Mizoram by Dr. H. Malsawmtluangi, Consultant for NAM. Awards were distributed for an article writing competition held in honor of Ayurveda Day. Dr. S. Mara Thansiami, Deputy Director of AYUSH, delivered closing remarks to conclude the event.

  • Second Position: Dr. Jonathan Lalrinmawia, ITI Veng (Rs 7,000 + Certificate)
  • Third Position: Lalnuntluanga, College Veng (Rs 5,000 + Certificate)
