All Elderly to receive full benefits under Ayushman Yojana: Chief Minister Dr. Yadav
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that health facilities are steadily expanding across the state. Guided by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, efforts are being made to improve healthcare services for the general public. He said that the state government has expanded the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, providing senior citizens aged 70 and above with health coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per year. Orders have been issued to implement this initiative, which will ensure accessible and high-quality healthcare for senior citizens. This support will enable the elderly to lead healthy, dignified lives free from financial burdens.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Modi, has approved health coverage for all senior citizens aged 70 and above under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, removing any income-based restrictions. Launched on October 29, 2024, the scheme bases eligibility solely on the age recorded in the Aadhaar card, with Aadhaar and Samagra Family ID required for registration. Under the scheme, a unique card will be issued to eligible senior citizens.
Senior citizens aged 70 and above, whose families are already covered under the scheme, will receive an additional annual top-up of up to Rs 5 lakh specifically for themselves, which they will not need to share with family members under 70. For other eligible seniors, the scheme provides up to Rs 5 lakh in annual family-based coverage. Senior citizens who currently benefit from other public health insurance schemes, such as the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), or Ayushman Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), may choose either their existing scheme or the new one, with a one-time option to decide.
The scheme also clarifies that seniors aged 70 and above who are enrolled in private health insurance plans or the Employees State Insurance (ESI) scheme will also be eligible to receive benefits under this program.
