Horticulture Minister Inaugurates Winter Fair cum Flower Show

Aizawl : Horticulture Minister Prof. Lalnilawma today inaugurated the Winter Fair cum Flower Show organized by the Mizoram Florists Association in collaboration with the Horticulture Department at Aijal Club. This flower show, which will run for four days, is scheduled to conclude on November 22.

During the event, the Horticulture Minister presented awards to the winners of the flower show competitions. He highlighted the significance of such fairs in promoting flower-based businesses and their stakeholders. Prof. Lalnilawma emphasized the importance of flowers within horticulture, expressing his desire to see continued progress in this sector. He also encouraged the Mizoram Florists Association to persist in their efforts to enhance the state’s beauty and horticultural development.

The event features an exhibition of a wide variety of flowers for public viewing, along with competitions across different categories such as mass arrangement, artistic designs, ikebana, perennial plants, seasonal blooms, and the prestigious “Queen of the Show.” Winners of these competitions were awarded prizes by the chief guest. A total of 97 entries were recorded for the competitions.

Additional Director of Horticulture, Pu Lalhmingmawia Pachuau, delivered a speech during the event, explaining the judging criteria for the various entries. Sponsorship for the event was received from both the department and private individuals.

The Mizoram Florists Association, established on November 16, 1997, and registered under the Mizoram Society Registration Act in 1998, has been working closely with the Mizoram government to manage and maintain key government-owned sites. Over the past two decades, the association has also been involved in managing various flower and plant species, including those at Lengpui Airport and its surroundings.
