CM Stalin Reviews Cyclone ‘Chenla’ Impact, Leads Relief Efforts
Due to the heavy rains caused by Cyclone ‘Chenla,’ which lashed the Villupuram district, the Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. M.K. Stalin, personally visited the affected areas, reviewed the situation, and extended relief measures to the victims.
Following the Indian Meteorological Department’s warning that Cyclone ‘Chenla,’ forming over the Bay of Bengal, could bring heavy rains to Chennai and its surrounding districts, the Honorable Chief Minister immediately visited the State Emergency Operations Center located in Chennai, Chengalpattu, and Ezhilagam for the past two days. He reviewed the measures being undertaken to prevent potential disasters from heavy rains and interacted through video conferences with the district collectors of Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Ranipet, Cuddalore, and Villupuram districts.
Additionally, in Chennai, the Honorable Chief Minister visited flood-prone areas directly, conducted inspections, and instructed officials on relief measures. Subsequently, on December 2, 2024, he personally visited Villupuram district to assess the damage caused by the heavy rains due to Cyclone ‘Chenla.’
In Villupuram district, 65 relief camps were set up to accommodate 3,617 people, while 11,000 food packets were distributed. Fifteen emergency rescue teams were deployed to rescue those affected by the heavy rains.
On the way to Villupuram, the Chief Minister inspected the fallen power poles and restoration work in areas like Chengalpattu district and Madakkazhiyur. He reviewed the progress of the work and instructed officials to expedite the restoration.
In the Marakkanam-Mandavai-Puthukuppam area of Villupuram district, the Chief Minister distributed essential items, including mats, blankets, rice, and food supplies, to 100 people housed in the temporary shelters. He also provided relief aid to families whose houses were damaged by the rains.
Later, at the wedding hall in Vikravandi, he distributed essential items and relief aid to 500 people affected by the heavy rains. Additionally, in the flood-affected rural areas of Kazhanai Panchayat, he inspected the damaged crops and discussed the details with the farmers.
The Chief Minister also visited Arakandanallur, where rescue teams, including the Tamil Nadu State Disaster Response Force and the National Disaster Response Force, provided food packets and essentials to residents trapped in flood-affected areas. At another wedding hall in Thindivanam, relief materials were distributed to 2,000 affected individuals.
During his inspection, the Chief Minister acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of rescue workers from the fire department, police department, and local bodies who participated in disaster recovery activities.
The inspection was accompanied by various dignitaries, including the Honorable Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management, Mr. KKSSR Ramachandran, and several other ministers and district officials.
