Devendra Fadnavis to Take Oath as Maharashtra Chief Minister
Senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis is set to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Thursday, according to sources. His appointment was finalized during the BJP core committee meeting held on Wednesday, prior to the Maharashtra Legislature Party meeting. Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, and Fadnavis attended this crucial discussion. Sitharaman and Rupani have also been designated as central observers for the Legislature Party meeting.
Before the legislative meeting, BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar announced that members of the BJP-led Grand Alliance would meet Governor CP Radhakrishnan at 3:30 PM on Wednesday to officially stake their claim to form the state government.
In the Maharashtra Assembly elections conducted on November 20, the BJP achieved a historic milestone by securing 132 out of the 288 assembly seats, marking its best performance in the state so far. Combined with its allies—the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s faction of the NCP—the BJP-led Grand Alliance commands a robust majority of 230 seats in the assembly. This overwhelming mandate positions the alliance to lead Maharashtra with a strong and stable government.
