Hyderabad Appoints 39 Transgenders as Traffic Assistants in Landmark Move

In a significant step toward inclusion and empowerment, the Hyderabad City Police appointed 39 transgender individuals as traffic assistants. The newly appointed personnel participated in an orientation program at the Integrated Command Control Center (ICCC) on Sunday, under the leadership of Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand. This initiative marks a pivotal moment in integrating marginalized communities into mainstream professions.

The event highlighted the skills and training the traffic assistants have undergone, showcasing their preparedness to contribute to the city’s traffic management. The program symbolized a progressive stride in creating equitable opportunities for all.

Speaking at the event, Commissioner C.V. Anand commended the transgender community for their resilience and dedication. “The inclusion of the transgender community in traffic management reflects Hyderabad’s commitment to equality and diversity,” he said. He reiterated the police department’s resolve to promote inclusiveness and provide equal opportunities for every segment of society.

The traffic assistants will work alongside the Hyderabad Traffic Police to regulate vehicular noise, ensure road safety, and address traffic-related concerns. Their presence is expected to enhance vigilance in traffic management while fostering greater social acceptance of the transgender community.

This progressive initiative has been widely praised by citizens and activists alike for promoting an inclusive and egalitarian society. Photographs from the event, captured by photographer Adula Krishna, revealed the pride and excitement of the newly appointed traffic assistants as they embarked on their new roles.

Hyderabad’s forward-thinking approach demonstrates a model for other cities to follow, blending practical benefits in traffic management with a meaningful contribution to social equality.
