SET Exam to Be Conducted by Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board

The Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board was established in 1987 and has been functioning effectively ever since. This board is responsible for recruiting teachers for government schools and selecting assistant professors for colleges under the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Directorate of Technical Education, and other related agencies.

Since 2011, the Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board has also been functioning as the nodal agency for conducting the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). Recently, in 2023, the board underwent a reorganization under the Tamil Nadu government to handle teacher and professor recruitment for government institutions and universities more efficiently.

From 1988 to the present, the board has successfully recruited 1,68,657 teachers, lecturers, and assistant professors for school and higher education institutions. Additionally, last year, based on the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s announcement, the board conducted special examinations to award research scholarships to 120 scholars, forwarding the eligibility details to the Directorate of Collegiate Education.

Currently, the Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board has been authorized to conduct the State Eligibility Test (SET). Experts and professors from higher education institutions and universities will oversee the exam process. The SET will be conducted systematically by adhering to high standards and under the guidance of the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) financial committee.

It is noteworthy that the National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted at the national level through the National Testing Agency (NTA). Similarly, the Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board will conduct the SET with the necessary administrative and infrastructural arrangements.

Furthermore, the board, in collaboration with Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency, is equipped to conduct both online and offline examinations. The Higher Education Minister affirmed that the State Eligibility Test (SET) will be conducted professionally and transparently through the Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board.
