Uttar Pradesh DGP Prashant Kumar reviews security arrangements for Mahakumbh

Mahakumbh Nagar : The Yogi Adityanath government has made extensive security preparations for Mahakumbh 2025, ensuring safety at all three levels—water, land, and sky. Uttar Pradesh DGP Prashant Kumar visited Prayagraj on Saturday to inspect these arrangements and review the security setup ahead of the massive spiritual gathering.

During his visit, he held a review meeting with senior officials and emphasized that the safety of devotees remains the top priority for the state police. Addressing the media, he assured that security preparations have been completed across all levels.

He stated, “Following the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, comprehensive security measures have been implemented. On the main bathing days, the state police is committed to safeguarding devotees on water, land, and sky.”

Highlighting the scale of the event, the DGP described Mahakumbh as a historic occasion where the largest human congregation on earth would take place. “Around 40 to 50 crore people are expected to attend the 45-day event, including a significant number of international devotees,” he added.

He further mentioned that preparations have been in full swing for the past several months, with infrastructure, equipment, and personnel in place to ensure smooth operations.

“Our preparations are solid, and efforts are ongoing to further strengthen them. This time, special funds have also been allocated for disaster management, fire safety, and traffic control to ensure the safety and convenience of all devotees,” he remarked.

Emphasizing the use of state-of-the-art technology to ensure a secure and seamless experience for devotees at Mahakumbh 2025, DGP Prashant Kumar highlighted the deployment of advanced equipment and systems.

He stated, “Interceptors have been deployed, a large number of tethered drones are in operation, and an anti-drone system has also been installed. Our water security has been significantly strengthened compared to the previous Kumbh.”

He further explained that both the number and capacity of ghats in the fair area have been expanded to ensure smooth crowd management. Devotees arriving from different routes will be guided to specific bathing zones and directed back through designated pathways for better flow management.

The DGP also underscored the importance of coordination with railways, ensuring efficient crowd movement for the massive influx of visitors. Additionally, he assured that proactive measures are being taken to secure the cyber infrastructure during the event. “We are closely working with skilled agencies to safeguard the cyber systems, ensuring vigilance against potential threats,” he added.

Addressing concerns about potential threats, DGP Prashant Kumar stated that the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) para commando team has been deployed in Prayagraj for Maha Kumbh 2025. “We are closely monitoring all types of threats and treating them with utmost seriousness. Action is being taken through departmental coordination and control room surveillance,” he assured.

The DGP highlighted that a seven-tier security system has been established for the Maha Kumbh, with a comprehensive security cordon extending from international and interstate borders to the Kumbh area. Additionally, he noted that 40% more security personnel have been deployed compared to the previous Kumbh.

Earlier, DGP Kumar inspected the Civil Lines police station before proceeding to VIP Ghat, where he observed a joint mock drill conducted by the police team. He later traveled to the Sangam by boat to review security arrangements and performed achamana (ritual purification) at the site. He also witnessed a mock drill conducted by the ATS.

During his visit, he paid respects at Bade Hanuman Ji temple and inaugurated the SSP Kumbh office, where he conducted a detailed inspection. His security review extended to the Akshayvat police station, where he interacted with constables and inspectors.

To ensure preparedness, the DGP was shown a demonstration of tethered drones and specialized vehicles. In a high-level meeting on security arrangements, he reviewed traffic management strategies, security protocols at railway stations and bus stops, and was presented with a film on cybercrime awareness and prevention.
