Transport Minister Meets Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal
Aizawl : Transport Minister Pu Vanlalhlana met with the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW), Pu Sarbananda Sonowal, at his residence. During the meeting, the Transport Minister urged the Union Minister to prioritize key initiatives under the Transport Department aimed at advancing Inland Water Transport (IWT) with dedication and efficiency.
Under the Transport Department, three ongoing IWT projects are being implemented:
- Development of IWT on River Khawthlangtuipui-River Tuichawng
- Development of IWT on River Tlawng (National Waterway-102)
- Development of IWT on River Chhimtuipui
For these projects, the techno-economic feasibility studies and Detailed Project Reports (DPR) have already been completed, while pending DPRs are under active review for approval.
Additionally, the Transport Minister proposed utilizing the Tuirial Dam not only for IWT projects but also as a promising site for tourism development. He emphasized the potential of Tuirial Dam to boost both transportation and tourism sectors. To achieve these goals, he stressed the importance of conducting feasibility studies and developing concrete plans.
The Minister was accompanied by Transport Director Er. R Lalrammawia during the meeting.
