CM Stalin Inaugurates ₹564.44 Crore Advanced Veterinary Research Institute in Salem
The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M.K. Stalin, inaugurated the Integrated Advanced Research Institute for Animal Health and Veterinary Sciences, established at a cost of ₹564.44 crore, in Salem district today (13.01.2025) via video conferencing from the Secretariat. This state-of-the-art facility is spread across 1,102.25 acres in the Thalaivasal and Koot Road areas of Salem district.
The institute has been established to ensure effective veterinary services, improve rural livelihoods, and promote sustainable development in agriculture-related sectors. It includes cutting-edge infrastructure such as administrative buildings, modern research laboratories, residential quarters, training facilities, and dedicated units for poultry, livestock, and aquaculture research.
The facility aims to safeguard indigenous breeds of cattle, goats, and poultry from extinction and enhance rural farmers’ productivity through advanced technological interventions. The institute’s objectives include producing 70 elite native breed cows annually, 500 hybrid goat kids, 20 lakh poultry chicks, and 20 lakh fish fingerlings.
Additionally, the facility will offer extensive training programs for farmers, veterinarians, and researchers, creating employment opportunities and enhancing the rural economy. With a dedicated budget and loan assistance of ₹447.05 crore from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), the institute is fully equipped to conduct advanced research and provide veterinary services.
During the inauguration, several dignitaries, including Hon’ble Ministers, Members of Parliament, senior government officials, and local representatives, participated in the ceremony.
