Cause of Fire at Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj
Prayagraj: A massive fire erupted at the Mahakumbh Mela 2025 in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on Sunday due to a cylinder explosion. According to officials, the fire broke out in Sector 19, engulfing the tent of Geeta Press. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
Bhaskar Mishra, in-charge of the Akhara Police Station, stated, “Two cylinders exploded in Sector 19 of the Mahakumbh Mela, causing a massive fire in the camps. Firefighters are actively working to extinguish the flames.” Prompt action by the authorities prevented the fire from spreading further.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath immediately took cognizance of the situation. He directed senior officials to reach the site and oversee relief and rescue operations. The Chief Minister himself visited the fire-affected area to assess the situation and ensure all necessary measures were being taken.
The official X (formerly Twitter) handle of Mahakumbh 2025 expressed sorrow over the incident, posting, “Very sad! The #Mahakumbh fire incident has shocked everyone. The administration is ensuring immediate relief and rescue operations. Maa Ganga’s blessings for everyone’s safety. I pray.” A video clip shared by the handle showed black smoke billowing from the affected area.
Fire tenders were deployed promptly, and the fire was brought under control. An official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office confirmed that senior officials were on-site to manage the situation and prevent further damage.
The swift response by the administration ensured minimal disruption, with ongoing efforts to restore normalcy and ensure the safety of pilgrims attending the Mahakumbh Mela.
