Health Secretary Amit Kataria Reviews Nehru Medical College and Ambedkar Hospital, Directs Swift Completion of New Mortuary Construction

Raipur : Health Secretary Amit Kataria conducted a review meeting at the boardroom of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College, assessing the current status and future plans of both the medical college and Ambedkar Hospital. During the meeting, he instructed officials to prepare a master plan addressing institutional requirements and upcoming developments.

Following the meeting, Kataria inspected several hospital facilities, including the Radiodiagnosis Department, kitchen, cancer ward, the proposed 700-bed integrated hospital site, and the under-construction mortuary. He was accompanied by Medical Education Commissioner Kiran Kaushal, Collector Dr. Gaurav Singh, CGMSC Director Padmini Bhoi, Medical College Dean Dr. Vivek Chaudhary, and Superintendent Dr. Santosh Sonkar.

Key Directives and Inspections

During the inspection, the Health Secretary and the Medical Education Commissioner instructed officials to establish accommodation facilities within the hospital premises for relatives of admitted patients. Additionally, the Collector ordered the rapid completion of a designated shelter for organizations willing to distribute free meals to patient families.

Kataria reviewed both ongoing and proposed hospital infrastructure projects. Dean Dr. Vivek Chaudhary provided a comprehensive briefing on the medical college, presenting details on departmental budgets and financial expenditures. Discussions included available facilities, pending requirements, and upcoming expansion plans.

Proposed Developments and Upgrades

Officials detailed the planned construction of resident quarters and hostels on government land allocated by the Forest Department. Other key projects include:

  • Beautification of the 1,500-seater auditorium exterior
  • Expansion of the hospital with a new G+7 cancer hospital, replacing the earlier G+2 model
  • Maintenance of air conditioning units in the medical college building
  • Electrification work across the campus
  • Installation of CCTV cameras and fire safety systems

The Health Secretary instructed CGMSC officials to ensure the timely completion of the mortuary upgradation and expansion project. Additionally, he directed Public Works Department (PWD) officials and the trauma center construction committee to expedite the long-awaited L-2 Trauma Care Center project.

Future Roadmap for Ambedkar Hospital

Superintendent Dr. Santosh Sonkar presented a four-year action plan for Ambedkar Hospital, including:

  • Creation of a dedicated garbage disposal route near the Cardiology Department
  • Construction of fire exits for SNCU and ICU units
  • Implementation of an e-filing system for medical records (MRD)

Further discussions focused on digital transformation initiatives. Dr. Omkar Khandwal briefed the Health Secretary on the execution of Next-Gen E-Hospital services, along with advancements in tele-radiology.
