Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin Inspects ₹11.57 Crore Thamirabarani River Embankment Renovation Project in Tirunelveli

Tirunelveli : Hon’ble Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr. M.K. Stalin visited Tirunelveli today to participate in various government initiatives. As part of the Tirunelveli Development Project, he inspected the renovation of the Thamirabarani River embankment, which is being carried out at an estimated cost of ₹11.57 crore.

During his visit to the Gangtok SIPCOT Industrial Park, CM Stalin inaugurated the 4.3 GW Solar Cell and Module Plant of Dodo Solar, a subsidiary of the Dodo Group, which is being set up with an investment of ₹3,800 crore and will provide employment to 4,000 people. Additionally, he laid the foundation stone for Vikram Vellore’s 3 GW Solar Cell and 6 GW Module Plant, a ₹2,574 crore project expected to generate 2,500 jobs.

Under the Tirunelveli Municipal Corporation’s Development Project, the Thamirabarani River embankment is undergoing renovation and beautification. The project includes the installation of stainless steel railings, 3,000 square meters of tiled pathways, solar-powered lights, 30 stone benches, and 28 electric lamps. With 90% of the work completed, the remaining construction is expected to be finished soon for public use. CM Stalin emphasized the importance of timely completion and instructed officials to expedite the remaining work.

Furthermore, as per the 2024-2025 financial report, the Tamil Nadu government has announced a statewide river restoration initiative covering major rivers, including Thamirabarani, Cauvery, and Vaigai. This project aims to restore riverbanks, improve water quality, develop green spaces, and construct public amenities in key cities like Madurai, Trichy, Tirunelveli, Erode, and Coimbatore.

The review meeting was attended by Hon’ble Water Resources Minister Mr. Duraimurugan, Municipal Administration Deputy Minister Mr. S.N. Sanaru, Social Welfare and Women’s Welfare Deputy Minister Mrs. P. Geetha Jeevan, MP Mr. C. Robert Bruce, MLAs Mr. M. Abdul Ghafoor, Mr. Ruby R. Manoharan, and Mr. Jainor Govindran, along with senior government officials and representatives of local bodies.
