Health & Family Welfare Department Conducts Awareness Program on Healthy Living
Aizawl: The Health & Family Welfare Department conducted a ‘Special Workshop on Promoting a Healthy Lifestyle: A Journey Towards Well-being’ at the Assembly Annexe Conference Hall to raise awareness about healthy living.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Vanlalsawma, Principal Director of the Health & Family Welfare Department, highlighted the increasing prevalence of diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, stroke, and respiratory illnesses affecting the people of Mizoram. He also discussed the growing influence of social media and influencers in shaping public health awareness. He emphasized the department’s continuous collaboration with individuals and communities in various programs and encouraged people to actively participate in health initiatives.
Dr. Eric Zomawia, Project Director of MHSSP & Mission Director of NHM, gave a presentation explaining how neglecting a healthy lifestyle leads to illnesses and premature deaths. He also shared ways individuals can take responsibility for their health. Additionally, Ruth Lalawmpuii, Consultant at MHSSP, discussed community-based health interventions and provided an update on the implementation of initiatives across six districts and 510 villages. Plans for WALKATHON – 2025 were also outlined during the event.
Following this, Dr. Zorinsangi, Assistant Director (Procurement) at DHS, Health & Family Welfare Department, presided over the oath-taking ceremony for Healthy Lifestyle Ambassadors. Dr. Lalnuntluangi, Deputy Director of MHSSP, expressed gratitude and announced the commencement of free health screenings for participants.
The event saw the participation of health-conscious individuals and experts from various fields. As part of the initiative, selected individuals were appointed as Healthy Lifestyle Ambassadors to promote well-being across Mizoram.
